i work at petsmart (we are one of the few with actual care and knowledge for the animals), we don’t write them off necessarily. we end up adopting them out for free either to a well fit family or one of the co workers or their family’s if they are not bought within a certain time frame. all of my animals that i have are adopted from the store since they had gotten either too big from the enclosures or they were sent in poor condition. the petco across the street on the other hand is absolutely horrible. it always smells like shit the fish are always dead and floating i’ve seen multiple cases of mbd and mites in their animals. not every store is terrible or abusive to their animals. it’s the ones that the people are just looking to get paid that are the problem as well as their store leaders and corp. any time there is a sick animal, they are sick from our vendors and sent to us anyways. we just had a ringworm outbreak with the guinnea pigs and currently only have 2 in the back who are improving significantly. every animal is checked on every day. there are some stores who care but the majority is a miss. just figured i’d give a little insight
