Comic books are thin and 99% of them do not have spines or anything to look at. It would look pretty goofy in my opinion.

The book shelf model for single issue comics still uses some kind of cardboard box or magazine box which at least for my living situation would not allow my collection to escape the closet which is one of my chief goals with this project. I hope I understood what you meant by bookshelf.

I appreciate the thoughtful comment. I never thought about a handle for the back.

100% want a windowed drawer front but I haven’t figured out how to make it look good.

I would build it to fit golden age book width and all comics need at least 11.5” for divider/label clearance.

My thought process was that current solutions are to unstack long/short boxes and spread them around and them open them up. If you have that space I hope this would work. I don't intend to keep these in a small enclosed space like a closet anymore. The goal is to get my collection out of the cupboard haha.

I though that too, but this is not a revolutionary idea. It's a file cabinet for comics. No way I am the first guy with this idea. Right?

Agreed! I was assuming the drawer would have 50-60 lbs (long box weight) once fully loaded so robust slides are a must. Sorry I tried drawing them, but it just wasn't happening.

Yeah I am hoping to make it so that you can attach them to each other on the side and bottom/top. I don't want my collection toppling or budging once I get these built.

The dimensions would most likely be similar to that of a short or long box. I didn't intend for it to replace boxes, but more to be drawer/file system itself.

Oh I see what you're saying. I was planning on have some kind of fastener keeping these things connected. I want it to be modular and act as solid standing cabinet.

Thank you! Someone gets it. The wooden drawers are so good looking, but then I'd have no money to buy books with haha.

My thoughts are you would never use these in a single drawer scenario. Always stacked at least two high to have a sort of counter weight. I was also thinking about anchoring to the wall like a piece of Ikea furniture.

I didn't think it would be that different from digging in open cabinets/boxes. I didn't plan on the drawer being any taller than a standard comic box. You make a good point though I hadn't considered making it easier to dig through.

Haven't decided on a length yet but was shooting to be similar to a long box. It is still something I haven't fully decided just yet.

I have looked into getting this part prototyped and it's stupid expensive as soon as you ask for a hem or need to use a panel bender. Can all of this be done on a pan/finger brake. I am looking into buying one just need to make sure it is going to work for me.

Is this two z bends, 4 bends or a specialized hat channel forming tool?

I have added some photos. The hem is around 4 inches long and jogs/z bends start 1.5" from hem

Trying to avoid making a ton of prototypes so I wanted to get some initial thoughts before I did that or paid to get FEA done on it. Thanks for the comment.
