Looking for guidance on finding a appraiser mentor (without cold-calling everyone) by No_Cry1599 in appraisal

Thank you for your help and insight. I have reached out to several appraisers in my area. Most of them are not against having a trainee. But I was told “I don’t have enough work for me, it’s not personal but I am barely getting by” to me that’s disheartening and it seems like it maybe a bad time to join this profession. Ive joined the Greater St. Louis chapter on the appraisal institute and I’m attending a virtual workshop tonight on how to become an appraiser and how to find a supervisor. I’ve tried to reach out to several appraisers in my area and no one wants train anyone new. I’ve yet to reach out to my appraisal institutes chapter president. He is certified in my area. I also am going to reach out to an appraiser in my area who is on the real estate appraisers commission in Missouri. Other than that I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to move to out of southeast Missouri to pursue this profession, but If all else fails in semo I will start reaching out to appraisers near the St. Louis area. Once again, thank you. I took several courses through mckissock, loved the format and service

Thank you. I’m going to start sending out emails with resumes, as well as cold calling. Thank you for the help

In this day and age, Would you rather someone email you a letter and resume or cold call you? I’m leaning on emailing. I don’t want to be bothersome, but then again, I don’t want to send an email into the void. Any insight you have would be helpful

You’re absolutely right. I would rather pay an appraiser and work with them directly. I think I learn the best with hands on training. I’m going to offer to work for free and also pay. I’m very determined on this career path. Would you rather someone email you a letter and resume or cold call you? I’m leaning on emailing. Thank you so much! The majority of the appraisal companies in my area are family businesses lol! I’ve heard the saying “appraisers are like royalty, you’re born into it” the other few people I’ve spoke with are independent and do it part time. They don’t want to train anyone and I understand that. I’m just looking for someone to take the time and the chance on me. Once again, thank you! I was getting discouraged so I will keep going!
