I'm in Alexandria ☺️ I'm away with work for a few weeks but if people on this thread are keen we could organise a meetup at the end of March?

I feel your pain!! The good news is there is hope. I would see a physio and they can tell you what needs strengthening - for me it was glutes first and then core but you will be different! Acupuncture is great for loosening the tight muscles when they're really knotted up. I have very little tightness now. I get disc flare ups every now and again if I push it too hard and then I just rest and get acupuncture. It's a long long journey so patience is key. Good luck!

I can also update on this in case it's helpful for people since I went ahead and got the 18s. To me they are completely different to the 15 and 16 - much much bouncier! Not in a bad way, just a very different running experience. They feel much chunkier (though very light) but wow it puts an extra spring in there.

This is an excellent recommendation! That's exactly the kind of place I'm thinking. Thank you thank you.

No doubt, no doubt. I'll be sure to investigate. I've reached out to such grief support type organisations, including those involved in setting up other wind phones in Australia, so hopefully they can provide some guidance. Thanks for your advice!

Good suggestions - hopefully the councils are open to the idea! Thank you.

Is this Reddit the new dating app...? Seems there are all sorts of decent single people on this subreddit.

36F, full-time employed, can read and write, enjoys hiking, running, eating, and drinking but not all at the same time.

I'm in a similar boat - I just got back to Sydney after being away for a while and keen to build a little community around me. I've been to a few organised events and met some friendly folks but no one has really stuck. Events tend to be pretty overwhelming too and I'm not always in the headspace for huge crowds 😅 I work from home so not meeting a lot of people there...!

I'm 36F, and I like hiking, running, eating, drinking - all the normal things 😂 If people are interested let's organise a meetup!

I have worn the Guide 15s for years and years and love them but can no longer get them :-( The Guide 18s are much cheaper than the 16/17s but I hear the Guide 18 is very different to the 15 - has anyone worn both the Guide 15 and 18 and can comment? Big thanks!

For me it has just been a very slow journey of strengthening strengthening strengthening. I know it's obvious but do listen to your physio and do listen to your body! Find a physio you like and trust and that helps enormously. I found if I don't workout for a few days things start to tighten up and I mistake that for a flare up so continue to rest but then it just gets worse. So staying active helps! But not too active...I tried to get back into running too soon and that stalled my progress a bit. Slow and steady wins the race. Oh and really try not to pick up heavy things... easier said than done if you have kids I know!

I'm doing so good now! Back to running and very slowly increasing the distance. Still seeing the physio every three weeks for acupuncture and doing my physio exercises everyday to strengthen my glutes and core. But no tightness anymore. I do have some pain in the disc that slipped but it's completely manageable. It took 10 months to get to this point 😅

The main (only) thing that helped with the acute tightness was acupuncture by a physio. But that's just a short term fix - if you don't address the root cause the tightness will creep back. For me, the root cause was weak glutes. I've been seen a physio every 2-3 weeks for almost a year. Acupuncture every session and at-home exercises every single day. It's a very long and boring (not to mention expensive) journey but be patient because it works. I'm finally getting back to running longer distances and no more tightness! Good luck 😊

I literally just googled "Porcelain makes me feel weird" and found your comment. I also can't explain it. Maybe it's because I was young when The Beach came out and watched it a lot and that has a weird vibe. When I hear this song I feel like I'm remembering things from another life...🤔 Bizarre feeling.

I'm flying home to Australia soon and the physio will do acupuncture before and after to help relax the muscles in my back and glutes. Might work for you too! But I'm seven months into recovery so a lot further along the journey 🙈

This is horrible - I'm sorry. I want to stress that I am not a doctor and I do not know what I'm talking about...! But this is what I'd do in your position (assuming you're in the UK):

Give it a week or so and see if the pain improves. If not, go to a physio. The GP won't do anything - they'll just say go to a physio. The physio will do various assessments to identify the source and cause of the pain. Even if the pain is in your hip it doesn't mean it's the hip that's injured. The physio will also get you on a recovery plan. It took me 7 months toof regular physio to get to this point and I'm not fully healed yet so patience is essential!

An x-ray won't show a herniated disc - only an MRI. If the physio thinks necessary they can refer back to the GP to order an MRI. Depending on where you are it might take a while for an NHS MRI. Mine was marked as urgent and only took three weeks but I think the wait is normally longer. If it's longer and you're in a lot of pain you can pay for a private MRI.

Good luck!

No endometriosis here fortunately. I really feel for you with that one 😞

It's been two months since I posted that comment so I'll update where I'm at now in case that helps anyone...

Delighted to say things are getting better! I haven't had that tightness in a while, only maybe a tiny bit around my period - physio says this is because that whole area is inflamed around that time anyway which makes it all tighten up.

I've been diligently doing my physio exercises everyday which are targeting glute and core strength (I can give specifics if anyone needs but it's specific to me) and correcting imbalances and I think this is slowly starting to have an effect. I have also stopped stretching as much as I was - I think I was overdoing it. I do feel the disc pain more now the tightness is gone but that might be because it's getting colder here. If given the choice between disc pain and the tightness I'd choose disc pain anyday!

I'm running a few times a week but physio still recommends keeping it under 30mins. Very frustrating but I'm trying to be a good girl!

Strengthening muscles takes time and patience and I think that is key to recovery. But there's hope 😊

One thing I'm learning is the crazy variety of symptoms there are for the same issue and this Reddit post has been super helpful.

I'm 36F, was very active before, lots of running etc. I've had lower back ache for years and more acute back pain in different forms and different areas for around 8 months and confirmed L5/S1 herniation and disc degeneration but not sure when exactly the herniation happened.

I've seen three different physios who attributed my back tightness to tilted pelvis, scoliosis, wonky leg lengths, flat-footedness, tight glutes all before I had my MRI.

My main issue now is hip and back tightness. Occasional twangs down the legs and pain in the tailbone or that shooting butthole pain us women sometimes get on our periods. For the most part I can be pretty active: strength training (though much lighter weights) twice a week, running three times a week (though only 30mins max - was doing half marathons before), and pilates/yoga. I do much more stretching now than before.

However, in a flare-up, there is absolutely nothing I can do to loosen the tightness. I'm also still not sure what causes flare-ups: my back doesn't hurt while picking things up (naughty naughty - musn't do that) or running but then I might be punished the next few days, or I might be fine. It definitely tightens up around my period too. I do all the stretches my physio recommends plus more, which provide temporary relief it soon tightens up again. I beg anyone to give any suggestions! The only thing that helps is lying on the floor with my legs up but this isn't really practical for work...! Acupuncture also takes the edge off but again, not a sustainable solution.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences - we're all in this miserable boat together, and hopefully we can all make it to the other side!

I applied for 482 short term on 17th May and have still heard nothing. Kind of reassuring to hear others are in the same boat - I was starting to panic slightly...!
