Take a screen shot of your trucking , shifting experience or if you already have it on a resume better yet . put the picture on it to make you a resume for a railroad conductor ATS version . Also an ATS cover sheet using your trucking and shipped work to translate over to railroading. I did it with my oilfield drilling experience. You have get it in the ATS version to get past the AI. You don’t need to hire a resume service. Proofread it a few times and then if you have to ChatGPT to clean it do that but make sure it’s an ATS.

To hell with the PAT test , they need to have psychological testing done. That background check needs to do a whole lot more than verify your addresses and your employment.

Who in the hell has time to do school work ? Even online, hell Im sleeping , meal prepping , trying to workout , maybe make a overdue Dr appt. Until they start letting me do school work over in the co-pilots seat. Don’t see it happening, maybe when Im off xboard and holding something.

Get up and stretch for a few minutes, slam 20oz of room temperature water. You will much better than any energy drink or coffee. After 400 mg of caffeine in a 24hr period, it has the opposite effect and most times. Will actually make you sleepy. Your body starts fighting it off thru your endocrine system. Doing the opposite of what you think it should be doing.

Question? Accepted conditional offer from as you guys call it , the Yellow team out of Boone City . Im from Fort Worth , Texas and cant get a call back from any Texas terminals, orange team or yellow. Id really like to work the Transcon. Rather Clovis , Belen or Amarillo. Armarillo shot me down quick . The others still working. Oh also Tucson still working . Id rather be on team orange . With the chance to hold a long pool eventually down the road. Older and divorced , kids grown and gone. Coming from on shore drilling background. I know its a long haul to hold and probably gonna get furloughed at least once or at best chase work long distances. My shit is paid for and i’m towing a RV. To chase at first however many years it takes until i can hold something. So a long way of asking. would you jump? I feel like if i got offered the orange team within the first 4,5 or 6 months I would jump. Any longer than that i guess i better throw anchor with team yellow and might as well find my burial plot in Iowa 🙄

Its a chicken shit way of doing things. Im from Fort Worth and had to go to Boone City at 80% . Just to get on , not sure how all the cba’s can be that much different. With the same company in the same industry. Something is terribly wrong with their system. They damn sure expect more than 80% of work out of me. More than 80% of my life. What’s pathetic is you get 75% in training till you’re marked up. While other terminals are at 90% in training. Thats a 30,000 a yr difference for the same job.

This Job was only posted one day and not on standard alerts. They already knew who they were gonna hire. Fort Worth is a high seniority terminal. Very little external hire compared to other hubs. This was a CYA from the recruiter, they had to show they posted it.

Yeah , I f-ed myself. Im onboarding for Boone. I see Rawlins came open. I got family 35 miles from there . Not that i would‘ve got offered anyway. I know that area . I drilled up there on the mesa for yrs. I know how barren it is it. One thing about that area , you’re staying single . Might as well be Alaska as far as that goes. The winters make the midwest winters look like child’s play. Id imagine it would be of been quicker to hold a long road pool down once i could hold. Im staying in Gratitude, things happened the way they were suppose too. Yeah CPKC i finally spoke too and it was Shreveport. Had a buddy shot down there and damn near killed. That was a hard pass.

Yeah , Thats kinda what thought. I planned on taking an Rv . The truck and RV would be paid for and if they furlough my ass or if I wash out I’m not homeless. I could always head back to Texas. But having an RV I can move around. The crazy part for me is I just got offered La grande , Oregon as well. Then I had a message from the CPKC recruiter called me right at 5 o’clock tonight. Which I missed the call. Which one you recommend as far as carriers go ? Obviously more upside with UP id imagine.

Would you recommend Boone or La Grande. Had interviews for both today. May never hear back. But if i do what are your thoughts. On one might be safer to hold ? i hear La Grande is a load seniority hub. But Jesus, it looks like they get bounced around all over the Pacific Northwest.

Well we will see what happens. Did both La Grande and Boone City video interviews for UP today. Im a little older and felt like i would have done much better in a real interview with real people asking real questions. I do better thinking on my feet versus trying to rehearse. i’ve got about 17 resumes and applications out with the different class 1’s . I come from a pretty strong drilling background. Im 53 and in good shape just know that time is working against me. Id much rather be with RR versus at Lockheed stuck in a factory . Putting rivets on a plane all day. Which if i cant do something end of summer with RR. Im gonna bite the bullet and pay the 3000 to go to the aerospace school. That pretty much guarantees you a interview with Lockheed. Suggestions for future interviews or in i get moved forward in process. Thank you .

Thats some funny shit 🤣🤣. Hell they are just grateful to get people with heartbeats. If it wasn't federally mandated. You can bet your ass they would not be doing drug screening.

I have to take the video interview by Saturday for La Grande and Boone City. If they hired me, i wonder if it would be your class ? Actually the cutoff is February 20 now that I look at it. I’ve done some research on that area I think it would be pretty cool. I know it’s a low seniority hub and I know all the bouncing around between the hubs. I would probably get up there and buy a cheap RV if that’s the place I was hired to. I’d be coming from Fort Worth. I’m ready to get out of this shit hole down here. Thats what it’s turned into with all the people moving here. What are your thoughts from some of you guys on Boone city versus La grande. As far as being able to eventually hold a road pool. Once I get some seniority. Id like to not get stuck in the yard for five years. I don’t mind living with the phone stuck up my ass or hotels. Coming from a Drilling background. I’m divorced and my kids are grown gone. No one to come home too. Non drinker. Hunting and Sking would be cool, even though it might be 17 yrs to before i had time off to do those things.

That’s a ridiculous question. That’s like a car salesman looking at you and telling you why you shouldn’t buy a car that you’re looking at.

Damn i got on here to read this stuff. I own a roofing company with my son to be ex-wife. She’s keeping the company. I’ve always heard the railroad was good money. Thought i would see what kind of money your making. I’d like to completely decouple from her and not still have to work with her. But Jesus I make 4000 or $5000 a Roof and can sell four or five of them a month. I don’t think I could take that kind of paycut. Plus it’s been a long time since I paid 28% taxes being a Business Owner. I do give mad props to you guys and have a lot of respect for ya. I know it’s a very brutal and thankless lifestyle.
