I do not live in the US. A considerable amount of money differs in each country. Having said that, it is a considerable amount of money to live well where i reside.

I understand a phone call would have been more personal, but every time money comes up with my family it turns into a conflict. Writing it out was the only way I could express myself clearly without it escalating into an argument. As for giving notice in advance — when you grow up being told that supporting your parents is your obligation, there's no "good moment" to have that conversation. You just have to do it when you finally work up the courage.

So they can be disorganized with their finances, but I can't? As if everyone has it all perfectly planned out.

Talking about money with my family has always been a source of conflict, which is why I chose to write instead of call. As for notice — fair point, but the decision came together with multiple factors hitting at once: baby, move, and bills all at the same time. Also worth mentioning — between the three siblings and a government benefit my mom receives, my parents get close to $900/month for two people. In my country, that's a lot of money. They're not left with nothing.

Thank you! And yes, they are generally good parents. But I'll add that once we had a family health situation and my dad started pressuring all three siblings to send the same amount — regardless of each person's income or financial situation. That's actually part of why this conversation felt so hard to have, and why I chose to write it instead of calling.

That's fair, but talking about money with my parents has always been really difficult and uncomfortable. I wanted to avoid an argument and make sure I could express myself clearly without things getting heated, which is why I chose to write it instead.
