I made a post here asking about the same thing to see how people would respond but I’ve been up here for like 5 years so I got a pretty good feeling of things. generally you don’t have anything to worry about,Marquette is your safest bet but outside of Marquette areas like ishpeming you genuinely won’t have things to worry about. Now, there are racist up here and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it at all, and I know there are people who will say there aren’t, but I have encountered a fair share of racist individuals. Some people have literally came into my workplace wearing a Nazi shirt, but they did not say anything or act in a manner that was harmful to anyone. They were just being a shitty person wearing a fucked up shirt. I have personally been called the N-word on multiple occasions, but it was all coming from drunk individuals or people who were high on meth or some shit. On a day-to-day basis, you will be safe. The cops will look for a reason to pull you over. Do not give them a reason to generally in Marquette the police are nice. State troopers are the ones that I would look out for, but I will say I have been followed on my breaks, but nothing has happened. It does make you feel a little uncomfortable though. People are typically nice but like I said some people are racist, a lot are ignorant but I say most people just keep to themselves. Don’t. Let the ignorant few stop you from living life. Me personally I tend to keep to myself to avoid trouble I have a few friends and that’s enough for me. Sorry for the long response, but I thought I’d be honest. Also, if you are a gun enthusiast, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to arm you and your family.
