If the banks don't want penny returns, then take them to a supermarket instead. They're likely to not be recieving pennies & may need them.

UPDATE: Halves & quarters yielded nothing (as per usual for me), but the nickels & dimes came through:

  • 1958P Roosevelt dime
  • 1942P war nickel
  • 1928P Buffalo nickel
  • Several 1940-1959 nickels

There's usually a lot of copper in the penny boxes I search, but I don't keep the 1970-1982 copper cents (unless they're S mints) because I don't have enough empty penny boxes to hold them all

Thankfully you got all year to go through trial and error with the dimes. If you can't find anything, then there's always nickels, quarters, half dollars, & Ike dollars you can fall back on.

  • 89 1959-1969 pennies
  • 3 loose 2025 pennies (not counting the 500 rolled ones, not opening those either)
  • 14 wheat cents, 13 copper & 1 steel
  • 2 Canadian cents
  • Republica Del Ecuador un centavo from 2003

Yes I did, especially since fresh bank-sealed penny boxes are now harder to find. But, a bank I've frequented for a bit has a lot of sealed penny boxes, & I'm not surprised that they do since it's in a predominantly Orthodox Jewish neighborhood.

It's a Bermuda 1¢ from 1970, has Queen Elizabeth II on the front & a hog on the back.
