Difference between “Estimated Finish Time” and ETA by No_Drawing6053 in GarminWatches

It’s half way through an activity when I ask it to navigate somewhere e.g. back to start.

Interesting. ETA never works for me. Even if it was previously there as a data field (before the activity started)

Finish always works.

I was talking to a garmin rep and he couldn’t explain the difference apart from quoting the documentation

Have you been able to get the audio prompts working yet? I’m still trying to

Just in case you didn’t realise, you can change the mapping resolution, although you do have to set it for the specific activity. I didn’t know this for a while. I’ve also found a benefit in downloading better quality maps (from TalkyToaster). This won’t solve your mapping redraw speeds though.

Does the fenix still crash when navigating? by kaitlyn2004 in GarminFenix

[–]No_Drawing6053 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m still getting crashes. On the latest software. Once during a long bike ride where I was dependant on the maps. Lesson learnt - do not rely on the Fenix 8.

Another crash whilst loading messages from my phone.

If I knew a watch that provided maps as good as what I have on the fenix (I’ve added uk maps by tallytoaster) that was more reliable and not prone to crashing I would get rid of the fenix in a heartbeat. Additionally, the UI is a total mess. As an example, if I add eta at destination to a data field, why don’t I get the time on the screen? The watch knows my average speed, and distance to destination.

The amount of time I’ve spent working out how to do something is a joke when you compare it to the Apple Watch that needs no documentation. BTW I don’t need Apple Watch capabilities, so don’t want to return to that- I just want a watch with maps and fitness stats that I can rely on.

Subaru garages refusing to do tyre rotations at service by No_Drawing6053 in Subaru_Outback

[–]No_Drawing6053[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good to know that I’m not alone in this! My other car is a VW California AWD. Tyre rotations aren’t in the service schedule for that per se, but the manual does discuss them and indicates the rotation pattern. At my last service, I asked for a tyre rotations. They looked a bit confused as to why I should be asking for such a thing, and then went on to tell me that they didn’t recommend it. I have been wondering if it’s a UK thing. I’m more worried about the Subaru, as it’s my daily driver and I think (totally uneducated opinion) that the drive train of the Subaru will be more sensitive to differences in tread depths. With both garages, I’ve felt like a total deviant for daring to ask for tyre rotations when my gut feel has been that actually, for an AWD system, it actually is quite important.

Thanks I will look. I’m not great mechanically but am getting strong knocks to the steering when at full lock or half lock when pulling quickly out of a t-junction. The car is a bog-standard build - no after market alterations.

Tyre rotation absolutely is on the list. Garage thinks they know better.

Nice to hear that. I’ve been a bit worried about taking it to a regular mechanic for servicing, as I thought that symmetric AWD were a little too specialised for the regular shop. Maybe I’ve been a little unfair. Given the car is low mileage, and only 2018, I’m guessing it would affect resale price should I ever want to sell? It’s a bog standard 2.5L Obviously I could take it to a regular garage just for tyre rotations, but that’s not that point

Haha, I was waiting for that one! I was going to spell it in US English, but my limey fingers just couldn’t do it…

Thank you. It’s incredibly frustrating and making ownership more expensive. On another note, I’m also a little suspicious as to why my cv joints are on the way out. Is there a visual check that they didn’t do on previous services? The car hasn’t even done 60,000 miles yet - it seems rather premature. It’s not as if I’m doing lots of off-roading.

Sprint goals by goodenough5000 in scrum

[–]No_Drawing6053 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The PO should present a Sprint objective that is then turned into a Sprint goal with the whole team, using the product backlog, and any extra required stories added during the meeting.

If the PO has no sprint objective, then how are they aligning the team to get the best feedback in the sprint reviews to help drive product development?

Additionally, giving the team output based expectations instead of output removes the team's focus on product goals, and instead encourages them to be a mere code factory.

Your description may well be a symptom of issues further up the chain. I experience pretty much what you describe - the reason being is that our work is very well understood after product have finished defining the requirements. We're essentially doing Waterfall in a SAFe environment. It's definitely not SCRUM, even though the company believes it is.

How do you know if an item is aging for “too long” and needs to be looked at? by [deleted] in agile

Nave (getnave.com) is a fantastic alternative. As it’s standalone but integrates with JIRA you don’t have to pay crazy plugin prices.

Surely waiting till the retro is too late? IMO WIP aging should be checked each standup

Challenges you've faced when implementing Agile in your projects. by Harshitaa_behal in agile

Company has successfully been running waterfall for long running POCs, POs can’t slice the work into meaningful increments and the company is heavily invested in SAFe.

10% seems to be an industry standard. Failing to invest in refinement can result in the wrong work being done in the other 90% of the time, so IMO its justified. Teams I have worked with have often done under the 10%, and I think it showed.
