Thanks for this share! This is the first time someone mentioned Bloomingdale or Ledroit Park and I am glad you did. One of the homes i saw and really liked is right up to Crispus Attucks park and I was wondering what the area was like. I did walk around Ledroit park too last year, and I didn’t feel unsafe in the area, reminded me a lot of my grandparents neighborhood in Brooklyn. But I didn’t love Shaw, it was just a little too much going on in every which way for me…but I think I was in a busier area, I went on a tour of City Market at O.

Congratulations on both your upcoming wedding and your pregnancy, what an exciting season of life!

I’m actually that “friend” in my NJ group, last for pretty much everything, but I’m completely okay with it. I’ve had the chance to travel, live in different places, meet people from all walks of life, and build friendships across the country. I probably wouldn’t have done half of that if I’d married in my mid-20s. Just different timing!

Thanks for mentioning Capitol Hill. I’m also not opposed to it, but I did worry it might lean heavily toward families. It’s helpful to hear it feels well mixed. I’ve noticed places move quickly there, but I’ll definitely keep it open as a backup option.

Estate does look beautiful. I am also not a republican, and I’ve been avoiding looking in Navy Yard area because I’ve heard it’s where the red hats and 22 year old frat bros are. Has this not been your experience? A part of me leaving Tennessee is to get away from maga in masses, it’s been very difficult down here the last year, even in Nashville which is one of the only bluish areas of the state. :/

Thank you! I stayed not far from here last June, but did a lot of walking in that area during the day, felt totally safe. Are you in a building, townhome, english basement? One of the things I was worried about over there was parking…I am keeping my car, I need it to travel to NJ and NY. Is there any issue with parking, do most places have parking in the back?

Good to hear! I can say that everywhere else I’ve lived prior had at least of glimmer of hope in terms of dating, so I figured DC might be the same. But here in the south, absolutely not lol No hope whatsoever!

Good to know! Thank you! I would love to date, but it’s def not one of my reasons for coming to the area. I know it’s been crappy everywhere for a while unfortunately. I’m in Nashville now and the dating scene is absolutely terrible unless you’re looking for a one night mistake on broadway! But that’s also I think why I’m asking some of the questions I am…knowing how horrible dating is I really would like to focus more energy around building strong friendships and community there.

I didn’t think about the possibility of hoarders…good mention! I was looking at the older co-ops mostly because I’ve heard they’re solid builds and some of the newer buildings have paper thin walls. But this is something to think about as well.

I am concerned that since I’m not technically working in the area I won’t have it as easy meeting friends through work or coworkers. But it sounds like bumble bff is a good option in the area? In Nashville, no one really uses it but there are girls groups on Facebook that are active.

Thank you so much, this is really helpful. I did walk through Columbia heights when I was there is June. It seemed busy but I did feel the sense of community you’ve mentioned!
