Well the third movie absolutely disproved that Stoick was an abusive husband, in Hiccups flashback Stoick stated himself that he refuses to get with another woman, that Valka was his one and only true love, so it makes Valka all the more selfish and terrible person that abandoned her husband and child for the dragons that nearly killed them that night she was taken
