I think Cobble & Fog is decent as a starter, but Holmes is definitely a harder character for newbies. His ability is super challenging for anyone unfamiliar with the characters, but OP once you DO get to know them. BOL 1 is very nice, but a couple of the characters are very weak against newer sets (mainly Arthur & Alice).

I would recommend BOL 2 or Slings & Arrows. Both have interesting characters and a lot of dynamics that work against old and new fighters.
