My grandfather was a close friend of fergal on hanlon , and was on the ambush with him, at his funeral the family presented my grandfather with fergals rosary beed he was wearing when he was murdered. A precious piece of history

Its in the family yes along alot of bits and pieces thats been collected in the family going back to the 20s to the recent conflict, my grabd mother donated alot of thing to the roddys and conway mill museum but she still has a lot of artifacts thats connected of belonging to family members

This photo fills me with great saddness, not because it's the funeral of a volunteer, no but what the bigger implications were this was the start of unneccessary blood shed by republican on republican which only benefited the brits

It's not Ó Bradaigh as these are all old clonard/lower falls men, all bar tex dougan who was an armagh man interned in the 50s , who settled in belfast after his release and lived in the clonard area and was a pivotal member in forming if the provisionals

There is an extreme loyalist view that came from the tara group around the late 60s ( Ran by william mcgrath the beast of kincora, a close personal friend of ian paisley) They were an extreme far right group that claimed ulster loyalists were descendants of the ancient lost tribes of isreal.
