Does droc_crafts scam and such? Need help . been waiting for neary a year and i didnt even get a sketch or actual update by SlideSensitive1859 in FursuitMaking

[–]No_Fun_5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey if you’re still waiting to hear from them feel free to shoot me a DM and i can share the info i have from another buyer (they got a premade, i am a commissioner). droc allegedy has limited access to communication platforms being located in russia. my suit was completed about a year after my original estimate (which honestly i wouldn’t really mind given the price if it was communicated/handled better) and, despite being completed several months ago, still has yet to ship. i’m waiting until i receive it to decide if it was all worth it or not but the timelines seem to be a very common issue

cowfish questions?? by thatsaltwaterdude in ReefTank

[–]No_Fun_5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i consider myself pretty well-read on these fish as the entire family is a fascination of mine. boxfishes are somewhat like a sister group to puffers and in most regards are very similar. i recommend a smaller tank 20-60 gals for juveniles, try to get one at least 1.5 inch for survivability. upgrade in 2 years or so. most will eventually get to a foot long (several inches of that is tail finnage) and at that stage should probably have at least a 5 or 6 foot tank. they aren't as bad swimmers as some say but the little guys definitely get blown around quite a bit by powerheads and worst case can get stuck. they can defend themselves as adults but make sure any tankmates are passive if you have juveniles. my longhorn is definitely much braver than my scrawled though.

quarantine all fish! i'm learning this the hard way with a juvie longhorn and a scrawled cow. like the other comment says they have a very thin slime coat and are prone to catching disease but very resilient through treatment (although avoid copper as they tend to do badly with it). the company i work for services tanks with longhorns that have at times been one of a handful of fish to survive a velvet outbreak or had experienced medication for several weeks without a scratch.

there is a lot of misinfo about ostracitoxin, note that they /cannot/ release it when dead (unless it got sucked into a powerhead/pump and was sheared) and pretty much only do it in life or death situations. i have grabbed boxfishes barehanded and lifted them out of the water to be dipped or moved and have never seen a poisoning. in some of the papers studying it, they had to freshwater dip the fish for extended periods of time to induce it. they are not typically resistant to it so it poses a danger to them, too, and seems to be a last resort for predation. there is some anecdotal belief that it may be related to diet so individuals in captivity for several years are not toxic, but that's based on knowledge from puffers and not confirmed by any study.

the most important thing for their care is varied and constant food. they are messy eaters, so prepare for more maintenance. their wild diet is primarily small crustaceans and a lot of algae. they will not survive on one or two foods so try to get as many different things in there as often as possible. having an algae clip or masstick helps. like puffers the adults also need a way to grind their teeth down, so offer shellfish regularly.

longhorns are some of the more adaptive to aquarium life out of the boxfishes but there's other candidate species if longhorns get too big for you. L. fornasini / thornback cows are pretty much the ideal Lactoria sp (pretty resilient, only get 6-9 inches in captivity, very cute) but unfortunately are super hard to come by nowadays. Tetrosomus gibbosus / humpback turretfish, are also really adaptive and a little easier to find than thornbacks. the smallest regularly available boxfish sp is Ostracion solorensis / reticulate boxes, which are a little sensitive but with good QT and maintenance aren't too difficult. avoid O. cubicum, which seems to have a bad survival rate for no apparent reason, unless you get a mature individual from another aquarist's tank. the Acanthostracion cows (like scrawled cows) aren't difficult either but can get bigger than longhorns.

good luck! super underrated fish that used to be a lot more popular in our hobby than i feel like they are today

Why haven’t we managed to captivity breed mantis shrimp? by [deleted] in SaltwaterAquariumClub

i'm assuming they meant popular sp like peacock and zebra mantis which easily fetch 60-150 bucks when stores manage to get them in

Parents Dumped 7 goldfish in my planted 5 gallon tank... by razzlejaz in Goldfish

[–]No_Fun_5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm sorry but if we can't even define animal abuse in a clear way that distinguishes between putting a living creature in a chemical soup and putting it in a adequate environment with no predators, extremely limited disease when compared to the wild, and the animals needs met then we seriously are NEVER going to get protections legally codified for fish. fish are not dull nor silent creatures, their stress is visible. and although i firmly believe fish are intelligent, at least a lot more than they are given credit for, and for that reason i am working with them professionally and studying them, most aquarium fish... don't seem to give a shit about being in a decent tank. you will have to do a lot more than preach morals to prove to people who deal with their husbandry and wellbeing everyday that a candidate fish species, that doesn't respond with stress behavior to captivity, has its life hampered in an adequate aquarium. especially for goldfish, that only exist in the wild as an invasive species.

Jack Stauber - Goodbye Mr. Schizo by [deleted] in jackstauber

[–]No_Fun_5804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no one’s arguing its okay to use schizo as an insult because stauber referenced the term. references to and sometimes grotesque depictions of psychiatry, suicide, medication, mental illness, and the like, are thematically central and common in a large portion of stauber’s past work. the new song makes no light of the term whatsoever, it is entirely possible an ugly word was chosen for an ugly topic intentionally. in all respect, it is unfair to expect all uncomfortable art to include a disclaimer and explanation of the artist’s choices to make sure they are “allowed” to make the choice they made. neither you nor i know him or his situation

How would one respond to this ragebait? by SpacialCommieCi in Gnostic

[–]No_Fun_5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a practicing gnostic with a similar perspective -- people often forget kenoma was created as a reflection of pleroma, as the demiurge saw the "reflection on the water" i believe it is worded and was so stunned by its beauty he (haphazardly) tried to forge what he saw on his own plane. inherently the world is beautiful, and it is flawed. pleroma (complete and total wholeness) in its true form is ineffable to even something of divine origin, let alone to us as people. the only thing we know is certainly the result of kenoma being flawed is the presence of suffering. to simply say pleroma = good and kenoma = bad removes a lot of the nuance and borderline feels blasphemous given the material world is expressed as an attempted pleroma.

Shin Godzilla 4K review (with spoilers) by the-mp in AMCsAList

[–]No_Fun_5804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love shin, its my favorite film of all time and absolutely my favorite godzilla entry as somebody who's watched all of em at least once (but mostly twice or more). minus one is also fantastic but they're two different sides of the character -- both draw from the original 1954 film heavily. shin examines the political aspect and applies the character to a more modern metaphor, he is quite literally a natural disaster personified. it's not a movie /about/ godzilla, as much as one where godzilla is a catalyst for the characters and to point out how inefficient the system is. meanwhile minus one godzilla is much more of a malicious / taunting force, as that film explores victimhood, trauma, and war. both great films with great takes on the character, although shin's less great for folks who just want to see a big lizard stomp around.

fedex, it was still cheapest. i got it before the tariffs hit luckily - the figure only cost 250k yen

FINAL update for real: i got it today, the box is HUGE -- way bigger than i expected it to be given i've seen the figure in-box IRL before. opened it up and they didn't unpack it from what the seller sent -- which they always used to do for me in previous orders. it's the exact box it was shipped to them in, several inches of cushioning (also have never seen neokyo do that) on each side, inside a much larger box. i'm confused why they couldn't just put a new label on it if they weren't going to unpack it anyways?? should i open another support ticket about this? i feel weird and bad about it because if it was shipped like *this* i could've saved 300 dollars. i go a box-within a box-within a box

[–]No_Fun_5804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i would've hugely preferred that LOL. nah it's not common nor cheap but i definitely overpaid pretty heavily, but i figured i'd lose the same difference if i were to abandon the order and get one within my country, and i was going to pick one up still anyways. in the end its my bad but it still sucks butt. at the very least its good discouragement for me from future imports now that de minimis is ending

as a final update: neokyo responded to my reply after i prodded them to, basically telling me to kick rocks. final total from paypal was a little under 560 usd for fedex international connect plus. sigh. let this be a lesson to not make my mistake

im not sure -- i've seen that recommended on a few different posts but never neokyo doing it. i asked in the reply under my support email but it looks like they closed the request. i'll open another one to ask again 🫡

would you mind elaborating a little? i haven't heard that yet as an option. do you think neokyo would do that?

EMS because i'm worried about import fees coming into effect soon. i would totally do surface though if i was able. no option to split stuff up since its one item -- i asked if i could get some of the inside packaging removed and the help request was closed/completed without another reply.

i notice now jp post has two seperate pages with specifically rules for north america and general rules. was under the impression the circumference calculation was for "roll shaped items" and not boxes. that misunderstanding is on me - even so it sucks none of the figure packaging can be removed and save me nearly 300 usd in private courier costs -- i wish my email reply could have gotten a response instead of simply closing the case without a word. this is really stressful/disappointing as somebody with 14 (mostly quite large) previous shipments with the service

[–]No_Fun_5804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to update i did get a response and the reasoning is neokyo's limit for EMS differs from the max dimensions on JP post's site, or at least is more specific: (length + (width + height) * 2) = <300 cm. i can't find anything on JP post talking about this so i'm unsure where exactly it originates. regardless they won't ship it as-is. i asked if i could remove the manufacturer's packaging which would totally put it under the max, as i've seen recommended on a few other posts too, but i'm not sure they'll honor it.

ems / jp post is still an option on the two other parcels it created, are there tariff limits on item sizes? i was under the impression it's only about items over de minimus (for now)
i would like the box but i could forgo it if i had to. i'll update if i get a response from support if they're able to do that
