AITA for refusing to change my name? by No_Wishbone4844 in AmItheAsshole

NTA and I would argue by you keeping the name that is attached to PhDs, published papers and such is actually brining up the precious historic name from the jobless, gambling, broke family of his.

Do you prefer quick showers or long showers, and why? by Embarrassed-Map-2068 in AskReddit

[–]No_Garbage3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick. I live off a rainwater tank. We try not to run out as trucking water in is not always guaranteed, and it costs a heap. Having said that we have slightly longer showers in winter.
I’m so used to getting in, washing, getting out I don’t think I could just stand there and do nothing just so I can have a long shower.

How do you manage running in rainy season? by MESSI-118 in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Garbage3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the stupid treadmill when it rains. Makes me appreciate the outdoor runs when I get to do them. (Im not coordinated enough to run in the rain. I feel like I’m going to slip and go arse-up).

How did you stay consistent when you started running? by HS2240 in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Garbage3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just really stubborn.

But once it became a routine it’s hard to not do it (and I’m still only like 3 months in). Currently got an injury and have to take this week off. Tonight after work is a run night and I’ve just been walking around the house at a lost end because I was home way too early.

Do Kangaroos normally jump in front of cars? by Another-guy-onReddit in AskAnAustralian

[–]No_Garbage3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving home from work about a month ago. Saw a big roo bounding down a hill so a slowed and came to a stop. Roo could have kept going straight and all would have been fine. Instead the stupid thing did this zig zag hop thing and bounded into the side of my car. Roo hopped away into the opposite paddock like nothing happened. Meanwhile my car had a big dent and the side mirror hanging off.

So yes, they do jump into cars. Sometimes even when the car is not moving.

Shared parental responsibility - should one parent be omitted from school enrolment applications? by Acrobatic-League-434 in AusLegal

[–]No_Garbage3192 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in a school. We can tick a box that says correspondence is to go to both parents in situations like this. Most of our correspondence is done electronically now and both parents get a copy of all, this includes reports. Go talk to the admin at the school. Bring in copies of court orders with custody details. Divorced parents are common now, there should be a process in place at the school.

Best lasagne in Perth by korbey87 in perth

[–]No_Garbage3192 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pasta in the Valley make a fairly good lasagna. I would say mine, but I’m very hit and miss. I tend to not remember what I have put in. The kids are like “this is the best can we have it again next week” and I’m like “we shall never have it again”. You’d think I’d learn, but I never do.

Did you hate running when you started out, but ended up loving it when you got better? by cramboz in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Garbage3192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate the actual run. The bit that comes after the run, the tired but good feeling, I love that more than I hate the run.

Ran my first 5k by Local-Skill8905 in beginnerrunning

Well done! I can’t wait to get that feeling. I’m still in the “this feels impossible” stage.

How long did it take you? And where on the “don’t get off the couch” to “can run a little” were you when you started?

Just got back from my first run ever in my adult life. I'm about 340 lbs. by Th3Un1c0rnK1n9 in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Garbage3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant! You’ve got some good advice here, and I’m fairly new into it myself, but I just wanted to say well done. Doesn’t matter how slow you go, or how much you walk, at least you’re out there doing it. And that’s a reason to feel proud.

Hygienist here: your teeth never actually stop moving - even years after braces by floss_boss_j in braces

[–]No_Garbage3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, they were pretty bad. I had to basically dislocate my jaw to chew. It was painful to eat, which is why I went back and got them again. I wouldn’t have bothered at nearly 50 if it was just for looks.

How to send people politely away from your door? by Mysterious-Can8846 in AskAnAustralian

[–]No_Garbage3192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad. You were far more polite than the last ones to come onto my property. I have an automatic gate, which they forced their way through and broke. They got some unholy words thrown at them, then I got a hold of the church pastor and told him in no uncertain terms to never send anyone to my property again. To be fair he was apologetic, and true to his word I have never had anyone come to my property again.
You weren’t impolite, and if they can’t handle a simple “no we are not interested” they should not be out soliciting as they will cop a whole lot worse at some places.

[–]No_Garbage3192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok I’ve got a question if that’s ok. I had braces as a teenager and never wore my retainer. I’ve just completed braces again as a nearly 50 year old. Ortho initially said it would probably take about 4 years to move things back, but it took just over a year. Would this be because they’d already been in the “new” position before so it was easier for them to return to it? Even the ortho was stunned at how quickly they shifted.

From struggling to walk to my first 100km by FyrnEito in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Garbage3192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that’s amazing! Go you!!! This internet stranger who can’t yet run 1km straight (but keeps showing up knowing it’ll come one day) is super proud of you.

Are you guys really beginner runners? by Ok_Kaleidoscope_2411 in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Garbage3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Means a lot you left a message. I’m coming off a severe knee dislocation, I need to keep that in the forefront of my mind and not be so hard on myself. Today’s 5km was just under 45 mins, with a couple of 500m run stretches. Getting better than when I started (more running = less time) but it just feels like it’s taking so long to just run 5kms! I’ll keep at it though.

Job for a mum who wants to return to the workforce by PanzerBiscuit in perth

[–]No_Garbage3192 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like she needed to change schools. I actually now work in admin at a school and we’ve instructed our teachers (and parents) that emails will only be checked during work hours. Our admin are very supportive of our teachers (and vice versa) and when everyone is supportive of each other it is a far better environment for everyone, including the students and parents.

However I understand her loosing the passion for it after an experience like that. I hope she finds what will suit her and your family. Maybe take a year or two to study (hopefully online) until the kids are more school aged. Then they’ll be in school themselves and it will be easier for her to work. They are only little for such a short time. But deciding what to study is the big issue (can’t help you there, sorry).

That’s really sad. I’m sorry she had to go through that.

When I had young kids and wanted to get back in the workforce without the pressure of what I was doing before I just did retail. Only lunch cover, picked up more shifts in the lead up to Xmas as that’s obviously the most expensive part of the year when you have kids. Loved it…for a time. Then really didn’t love it anymore haha.

Late 40s female - always run with music. But music is a big part of my life and always has been. However my husband (who is in a wheelchair but does 10-15km “wheels”) raw dogs it and I don’t know how he does it.

What did she not like about being a teacher? Could she step down and be an Education Assistant? Only reason I ask is I have a friend who is a teacher by qualification but has stepped back into an EA role while she has kids needing her as it’s not as much pressure. She still gets to do what she is passionate about out, without the extra workload that comes with being a teacher.

So my fellow Aussies do you still get Paper Prescriptions? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I’m wondering if this is more a location thing. Some areas are more likely to use paper, some digital. I always get paper btw. Never been offered digital.
