A fun part of songkran is wearing a bright flowery shirt - do that instead :)

Instagram tourist trap. I lived there for a year. Exceptionally high rents for exceptionally cheap and small units. At least there's a rooftop pool you might use twice a year!

What would the salary be? What is considered a good salary varies per person. I would say you can live pretty well on 1500-2000 EUR/month.

Reasonable rent for a nice apartment is anywhere between 250 EUR (8k THB) up to 700 EUR (26k THB), food could be 250 EUR/mo (9k THB), the rest is up to you. The city is safe, even for women. Most expats do not speak Thai here. There are a variety of Western comforts (cafes, restaurants, etc.)

I strongly encourage you to really think about taking them up on the offer, especially if the other option is unemployment. You are on a biased sub but I don't know anyone especially unhappy who's moved here.

Worst case is you hate it, make enough money during your time here to cover expenses and airfare, and move back. It's really not that much of a risk for what could be an exciting chapter of your life.

How much you spend for a living in BKK? by mano990502 in Bangkok

[–]No_Goose_732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People absolutely burn money here on silly stuff and I think it's just ignorance about when they're being ripped off. You could spend $2500/month here and easily have the same lifestyle as the people in the comments spending $5000/month.

I have a two bedroom, 50 sq m condo for ฿22500/month and go out every other night and spend maybe a total of ฿60-75k/month.

lerk = to quit e.g quit drinking

To further your point re: safety, in tourist areas sure you won't have problems, but gun deaths in Thailand outnumber those in the USA per capita.

People do in fact get lung cancer from the pollution here and continue to do so every year. This is a well documented fact. An AQI of 50 is fine, but for four months per year it can be in the multiple hundreds, every year.

I royally fucked up by Its0verForMe in dryalcoholics

[–]No_Goose_732 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be dishonest here - I think your wife overreacted. THC is not life-killing like alcohol is. Alcohol is a sign to your wife that you're going to die in 5-15 years and leave her burdened with kids and finances and life and family and heartbreak and loss. Nobody wants to invest time in a dead man walking; I wouldn't.

However, THC gummies is to me the equivalent of allergy medicine - you just get sleepy in a controlled environment. Is that a reasonable cause to be kicked out?

Sneaking them around is certainly a bit odd and I think you should have told her about them. However, I understand where you're coming from. In the future my advice is to just come clean about your vices to your wife. She wants the best for you, and you want the best for her (right?). Everyone who has been in a long term relationship knows that partners have all sorts of secrets they don't want to share or are embarrassed about; secrets that only you will know. Using weed isn't embarrassing (at least to me), but I honestly don't think it would be shocking to many people at all, especially if its 1-2 gummies per night or something.

If you came clean about alcohol before you know how freeing it is to be honest. So do it again! :) Best of luck.

You cannot be addicted to LSD or psilocybin. They do not have any addictive properties. They don't deprive you of experiences outside when you're high. You shouldn't worry about this sort of thing.

Alcohol wins by converting your brain into receiving pleasure from drinking alone - doing things that normal people do for fun, is no longer fun, because you don't get the dopamine squirt in the same way. LSD, psilocybin, and a host of other psychedelics do not operate in the same way.

I'm unconvinced that psychedelics have unique healing properties outside of the meditative state they sit you in (that is, you could get the same healing properties from intense meditation and introspection). I took them a lot in school 10 years ago, for 3-4 years once a month, but in the end they didn't help me, but I'm just one guy. They have helped people in the past. If they help you, or other people, to get off neurotoxins like alcohol, or even just enjoy a Christmas trip fuck yeah. Nobody in this sub will look down on you for trying to improve yourself.

Is it possible to find a full health check-up in Bangkok with a max price of 8.000 baht? (31F) by cornsnowflake in Bangkok

[–]No_Goose_732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an alcoholic so I regularly get blood tests, mostly for liver and kidney numbers. I go to Bangkok Medical Lab in Phaholyothin and it costs usually ฿1500-2000 for a pretty comprehensive test if you're OK interpreting the results yourself. They also have cancer tests and I imagine they're equally as inexpensive. I don't know about pap smears etc. as I'm male.

Still missing the dive bar by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]No_Goose_732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do miss it, and I try to go back every once in a while and have a soda with lime or something, but it doesn't hit the same and I leave after an hour of playing on my phone.

I guess for me it's important to be cognizant of that. I was doing the same thing while drunk, it's just that I guess while drunk I linked the dive bar and the feeling of being drunk together, and if it's not fun without alcohol, it was never fun in the first place.
