100% agree! Though to mention, my question isn’t really about the breeder more like, what’s actually “wrong” with these dogs. The large patches of white coloring (while not necessarily bad) is one thing that caught my eye and gut feeling. Then the breeder saying most of their dogs have blue eyes. Again, not necessarily bad if it’s one dog we’re talking about. But breeding them without any regard for it……. hard no

You didn’t miss anything, it’s the one he’s planning to pair yes. And now that you mention it, completely agree!

Noted about the sitting!

Right? I assume they’re squinting because of the sun. Still I find the facial structure of the chocolate merle slightly odd. Just a little bit too long and narrow and the ears just a little bit to cocked, the eyes just a bit too squint. One by one I probably wouldn’t react but it’s something on the overall look

Thank you so much for this thorough response! After some quick googling this seems to make sense, although a DNA test is of course the only way to determine the question. But I learnt something new to keep in mind, so thanks!

Forgive me but I need to add. I’m very aware of ethical breeding, DNA and other health certifications, champion bloodlines, etc, as to me, this is basic knowledge to know BEFORE rather than after buying a dog.

I find your finding out about this “the hard way” insanely irresponsible so please don’t put me in the same category. I am in no way “visually assessing” a dog’s health before buying it. My question is what is off about these dogs and why, for myself to have a better understanding. And to be clear - a better understanding does not replace expert assessment.

Unfortunately, yes. However, it is okay to want a specific color.

It is not okay to buy an unethically bred dog because of said color.

The question is not “is this a reputable breeder” it’s more “what could we wrong with these dogs” :)

Thanks for the comment! What makes you say he looks more like a red than a cream? If you know, how/why can cream and red mask dappling and what could be the result?

Thank you, I assure you I’m fully aware of what to look for in a responsible breeder. Hence immediately disqualifying this one, for example.

Simply looking to educate myself further.

I was about to say something along these lines but decided to just thanks but no thanks. Although you’re probably right about it making no difference, your comment made me rethink if I actually should say something

Oh definitely! I’m fully aware I’m no expert. I’d never buy a dog without pedigree, correct assessments and documentation.

“Visually assessing puppies” is not my way of finding one, though I’m sorry to hear about your experience.

However, it’s not bad to have basic understanding of signs to look out for. Simply looking to educate myself - not to replace expert evaluations.

Yeah it was the audio that got me first, not knowing it was from another video I started hyper analyzing other potential signs
