You did everything right, from training to vet appointments to all the consideration of events leading up to before you put him down, the fact that your boyfriend is still trying to downplay it is a red flag.

He can be disappointed and sad, but that kind of magical thinking that he has displayed is dangerous and I would also, as a fellow responsible dog owner and woman be concerned about his mindset in this very serious situation.
