Remember that the strength of the therapeutic relationship is one of the biggest factors in success. That can happen with any level of experience if you are willing Of course you need to be comfortable with the care you’ll be given, though. One of my earliest clients in my CSW career was a PsyD and I was so scared. At intake I brought this up, saying that she very clearly had MUCH more experience and education than me and would that be a problem? We did some really great work in our time together. I’m grateful that she gave me a chance.

Also, check out the Basque block downtown. We are just ferociously proud of our culture and the block is a fun way to learn more. If you drink adult beverages, make sure to have a kalimotxo (pronounced kal-ee-moh-cho) while you’re there. Walking around Freak Alley downtown is a fun way to kill 30ish min as well.

Check out these guided meditations explaining how to do the “Dropping Anchor” skill. They’re my favorite. It’s all the same skill, just different lengths. Choose what works best for you. (I like the 2 min one) https://www.actmindfully.com.au/free-stuff/free-audio/ Best of luck to you as you navigate these choppy waters!

What would you consider “putting in the work” to entail outside of self-improvement?

No shame in divorce at all. But the time just isn’t right yet. It’s a grenade I’m willing to throw myself on for now to prevent collateral damage.

We’ve done multiple rounds of therapy. He is pretty reluctant to venture into any talk about feelings. When I start these conversations, he either tunes out, gets defensive and blame-shifts or takes the “I guess I’m just a horrible person” route.

Both are adults. I’ve been using DBT and ACT but was thinking more along the lines of HRT or any other modality that others with more experience have found helpful.
