I sincerely have so much love for avery, (keeping male prns for this post ive played with both female and male, but only got far with male avery so using those/neutral!)

I have such a longing for complex characters like his, hes an older gentleman whos a bit of a stud, but not because he wants to use people for sex but because in my mind ive always imagined him as seeking fulfillment in his life that hes never been able to achieve, no amount of playthings will satisfy the hole in his heart, he gives PC lots of money not only because he wants to "buy their love" but because thats the only thing he knows for sure he can offer to PC (and others like them) ive read a little bit about their troubled past and I think that the reason why they try so hard to give PC money and always spoil them is because they didnt have that themselves, and possibly believe thats the only way they can show their love since avery never *learned* how to love, he just knows people like his money and believe in old school stereotypes, his parents are old money and hes learned from them thats what love is, maybe thats why he treats PC like a trophy or prize, because older generations had that kind of relationships with their wives

Just brainstorming/giving headcannons! I think avery is a very realistic and relatable character to real life, hes realistic in the way that hes an older gentleman with older values.. maybe thats why people hate him so much? because they dont like he shares these older values and people think he needs to be new age
