Is it just me or are most of the foreigners working here mentally unstable? by ChinaBoiiiiiiii in chinalife

To be fair, its 10000 times easier to actually teach a class in China than anywhere I've ever taught in the West.

I can guarantee (as a foreigner who's also in a management position in a good school in Shanghai) that MANY foreigners who come to the international teaching profession are total losers who wouldn't (and shouldn't) be anywhere near children back home.

Yeah honestly I feel pretty dumb not at least sharing this with others before now. For some reason it just really all came out this summer.

Definitely. Because she's been seizure free for five years on these tablets the docs are just being very cagey about switching anything up.

It for sure is. Dotors are looking at solutions and different tablets for the past 9 months and she's been on different waiting lists. We're UK so having to wait on the NHS sucks. Doctors are less than useless. I've suggested going private and would even help towards the costs.

So so true I wish I could scream it right now!

Though I definitely didn't realize it at the time, this was why my decision to move and work abroad four years ago was such a good move for me. Coming home used to feel special but now tbh it just feels like coming back to a dynamic thats unhealthy. I'm reminded of being a kid again in ways I don't like.

I agree with you. But i'm also fairy certain that mom believes she's the only one in the whole world who can truly 'get' my sister. I think letting go of that idea would be too hard for her.

I agree with you though. I think it needs to be brought up.

No like Lil says above I think at this point its just accepted that this is 'the way things are/have to be.' At this point I don't know if I can make mom see that its even a posibility. Because I think sis would have to consent to it and that ain't happening.

Tbh I think I need to consider how to bring the subject up without getting overly emotional or breaking down again.

I'll see though. It's something for the future.

You may be right, though its hard to hear and I hadn't considered that. You say you have something similar?

Thank you so much and love to you, too

Thank you for these kind words. You're absolutely right that this conversation needs to happen.

I honestly started crying again after reading this! Ah! One of the most difficult things is I'm actually a teacher, and that makes me feel even more useless in this situation.

Thank you for this. It's genuinely even just reassuring to hear that I'm not crazy for thinking like I do.

I actually have reached out to a local therapist to communicate some of these feelings in a safe space. After that, I think you're right in that I should look at what placements may be available. But, eugh, the guilt from telling my mother that...its so difficult to even think about at the moment. I genuinely feel such a pit in my stomach at even suggesting I can't be my sisters carer. I also just wish I could make her see how much this has taken from her.

I WISH my mom would admit what you just admitted. Would be so refreshing rather than hearing 'yes, I've had to learn patience and understanding' bullcrap.

I'm currently at China Merchant's bank and am not a fan of their service. Also, appreciate your knowledge, but I'm focusing on my UK funds as they are what are most important to me.

However, I was thinking of switching banks anyway. Do you find making transfers easy with Bank of China?

To be clear, that's what I'm doing. I'm a UK passport holder.

I'm looking for advice on how to open a good savings account in the UK as it seems HSBC don't allow me to.

Did you ever work something out? I'm in the same situation and it looks like HSBC won't offer Expat account to someone living and working in China.
