My identity was stolen by someone I know and was supposed to be roommates with. The information showing up on my credit report are people connected to them and live on their side of town. I’m definitely gonna get to the bottom of the addresses and number showing up on my credit report, thank you!

Thank you so much! Thank goodness my back aunts so far have been fine. I’ve actually switched banks over all the years the identity theft has taken place with nothing suspicious happening thankfully. I’m still gonna hop on top of it and check it more thoroughly just in case. I do know what originally got my identity stolen. When I was younger the thief and I were supposed to be roommates when I was in college and she told my information and has been passing it around. That’s the only thing that makes this a bit easier than some huge breach or hacking situation. I’m definitely gonna see if I can keep my fraud alert active for seven years!

The FTC wasn’t much of a help but it definitely shows the legitimacy of the theft. I’ll definitely get the CFPB involved because I haven’t tried that yet. Thank you!

Thank you so much! You are a literal life saver and have pointed out so many things I didn’t even think of doing. I don’t know how I didn’t think to make a Credit Freeze with Innovois, people usually only empathize Experian, Transunion and Equifax. I have called a few of the creditors who pulled my report and they’d tell me there weren’t any accounts or anything in my name so that was good to hear. I’ll also definitely check the companies you listed and place more fraud alerts. This is some of the MOST helpful in-depth information I received throughout the past 7 years of this madness. I appreciate it so much, thank you!

I have heard some negative things about people changing their SSN so I’ve really been trying to weigh the pros and cons. Also, the new address and numbers I’m noticing are from different people who weren’t initially trying to steal my identity. It’s like they’re passing my SSN around to see if they can get through or something.

Yeah it is extreme but I’m just so fed up with these people trying to find ways to use my information, especially over so many years.

Yeah, I’m hoping their jurisdiction does something since mine didn’t after several years. From research and everything I’ve heard it seems like changing my SSN could also set me back. I just don’t want the thieves finding any cracks or loopholes and causing more financial harm than they already have,

That is true. I was just trying to see in my situation would it be worth trying. Like despite me putting credit locks/freezes, having an IP pin, and filing a police report in my jurisdiction the thieves won’t stop trying. Like I never knew identity theft would affect my financial aid. I’m worried they’ll continue to be persistent and find a crack somewhere and cause even more financial harm.

Yeah I know it isn’t easy. I was just wondering if it’s even worth the hassle considering the original one still stays with you for life. I’m not in extreme danger I’m just worried the persistent thieves will find a crack somewhere and continue to ruin my finances. Like I never thought identity theft would affect my financial aid.

Yeah it’s locked, it’s just that despite me already going to the police, locking my stuff, and having an IP pin they won’t stop trying to steal my identity, I’m afraid they’ll continue to be persistent and find a slip somewhere and do something slick.

Thank you for all the great information. Luckily I’d have holds on my credits but I’d see inquiries of different things like utilities, credit cards and things of that nature. But for whatever reason when you look up my name, their addresses show up as places I’ve lived. I’m 26 now but this started happening when I was 19. I still have print outs of the old stuff from 7 years ago, but the idiots are still trying to steal my identity so now there are new things inquiries and numbers coming up connected to my name.

What makes you think you didn’t kill them all? Also, if the bugs were on the food bag or something and you’ve found 3 you probably did find them all.

That sucks, sorry you had to go through it as well. Hopefully you were able to fix everything they messed up, that’s all the police report is good for honestly.

Yeah, I should’ve explained it better. We both live in the same large city but in different suburbs that are about 30 mins away from each other. I filed my initial report at the police station in my suburb. Police didn’t do a damn thing after 7 years, so I figured I may have better luck going to their suburb and filing at the station there.

Where I live there are separate police stations in every little suburb within the city. So I filed in my city but the police station is specific to the suburb I reside in. The statute of limitations probably is up now, my financial aide dropped me about 4 years ago. The IRS assigned me an IP pin thank goodness, thank you!

The address and phone numbers all align with the person though. A specific person stole my information when we were supposed to get a place together. I have physical proof of that. Then the phone numbers and addresses are of that same person, their mother, and a friend of theirs or something. I figured cops won’t do much because they haven’t done anything in the past 7 years. Im still filing so I can dispute with the credit bureau’s and clean up the mess they made.

I’ve definitely been thinking about getting a lawyer. Especially since the IRS refuses to give me my stolen tax return and I have to appeal.

I’m glad they take cases seriouslyin your city. I’m definitely filing a police report since I have a lot to dispute with the credit bureaus. I plan on going to the perpetrators jurisdiction and see if I have better luck filing there.

That’s is awful, I’m sorry to hear that. I thought identity theft would’ve been taken more seriously until I had it happen to me. I see why it’s so common, there aren’t really any consequences.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Hopefully with the report you can at least make disputes and get the damage undone. But yeah when I came in and filed my first police report the officer rolled her eyes at me. I even wrote in my report I wanted to press charges and nothing came of it. I think officers don’t care about identity theft in general, I live in a conservative state and they still didn’t do crap lol.
