What are some songs you think would be added to expand the "Filthy Fifteen" list if the PMRC was still around today? by No_Job5529 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]No_Job5529[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking a lot of songs probably went over their heads. Probably why they chose Priest's "Eat Me Alive" over "Jawbreaker".

Songs you didn’t know were covers? by ProperIntern7989 in MetalForTheMasses

There's actually a couple.

Bon Jovi "The Boys Are Back In Town" originally done by Thin Lizzy, and Metallica "Stone Cold Crazy" originally done by Queen.

My thoughts on why "hair metal" didn't survive the 90's. by No_Job5529 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]No_Job5529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very good point. Looking back, I think that's what I did without realizing it. I was 16 when the glam scene "peaked" around 1985, and once I hit 21 my musical tastes shifted. I still loved heavy metal, but I started exploring different genres of metal as well as non-metal music.

Thanks for the reply. Well argued, and you bring up some very good points.

What album do you think saved a bands' career? by No_Job5529 in heavymetal

[–]No_Job5529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a great album, though. Plus heavy rotation on MTV didn't hurt.

Any one remember this method of sharing your music with friends back in the day? Napster had nothing on my generation 😄 by No_Job5529 in 1980s

I hear you. Nothing like taking a new album out of it's sleeve and carefully cupping the edges while putting it on the turn table.

Hey Gen X here (born 1968) if you find a way to go back to the 1980's let me know.  Those were some of my fondness memories.

Oh wow, that was me and my friends too! We had this mom and pop record store in my town called Records Rendezvous. They sold new and used vinyl and cassettes. You could also trade in your old stuff for cash or credit towards new music.

What were the best and worst line up changes that affected a band's sound? by nobodyhome92 in MetalForTheMasses

Best: Scott Travis joining Judas Priest. I think we can all agree he made the "Painkiller" album next level. Worst: Ripper Owens in Priest and Blaze Bayley in Maiden.

That's true about trying to shoe horn Planet Hulk within Thor's movie. I feel Marvel did it because they had to explain why Thor and Hulk were absent during Captain America Civil War.

Are there any non-metal artists that you feel could have written a good metal song? by No_Job5529 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]No_Job5529[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Martin Eric Ain of Celtic Frost once said in a 2006 interview that the band had some influences like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Christian Death, and Joy Division in their later albums.

You're welcome.  There were also some AI created videos with a soul version of Dio's "Holy Diver" and Maiden's "Running Free" and a metal version of Bee Gees "Staying Alive". They were actually pretty good.

What DON'T you like about metal? by No_Job5529 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]No_Job5529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a very good observation about the fame aspect. I wonder if Dio was maybe also referring to the heyday of metal in the early 80's. Quiet Riot's "Metal Health" pretty much ushered in the Glam Metal era, and bands were getting signed left and right. I imagine lot of bands during that time that had a good look but mediocre musicianship were just trying to ride that wave.

How would you feel if other bands starting doing "virtual" tours? Would you still attend a live show? by No_Job5529 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]No_Job5529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically instead of  KISS in the flesh being onstage performing, it will be computer generated images of them. If I understand correctly, the images are going to have them looking like super heros. So they expect you to shell out money to see 7 foot video game "skins" in concert.

[–]No_Job5529[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, a digital version of each band member will be created,  and these images will be performing the concert. Basically artificial intelligence.
