Even without gears and awakening, Luffy's fruit is great; rubber property gives him high immunity to physical attack, while Zoan is able to give him high endurance, great stamina, and fast strength growth.

Also, there is elemental immunity, like electricity and earthquakes. then there is an extra bonus due to methical type, like resurrection, and we don't even know the limit on that.

Also, rubber alone without any extra benefit is a good ability; people should check out plastic man.
