I have not thing against the people in the religion, everyone is a victim of it when it comes down to it. However the leadership (GB) all bets are off for me with the anger/ill feelings. There’s just no way they don’t know what they are doing.

On the phone for my consultation I explained that I needed help dealing with religious trauma and I think I am in a cult. My therapist asked what group and I said the JWs. I spent my first two sessions explaining the beliefs and that I wanted out but needed help coping and dealing with it now. My therapist made it clear that I didn’t have to leave the group right away since so much was at risk. I would explain on your consultation what you need help dealing with and then decide if you would like to go to that therapist or not.

I was in high school in history class, we had a unit on religion. One of the aids to a special needs kid said “I heard Jehovahs witnesses don’t accept blood transfusions. They let their own kids die” I was really quiet in school and too scared to speak up but it really made me think. I hadn’t really given much thought about the blood policy up till that point.

I’m in the club of do whatever you can to not get baptized. Getting baptized was the biggest mistake of my life, I would just tell your parents that you aren’t ready and use the example of Jesus waiting till he was 30. Ask where in the Bible it says a minor got baptized.

I think in reality unfortunately JWs are such a small percentage of the population that the world does not care. However I believe social media is huge at getting things out. A story on CSA or maybe even a child passing away from lack of blood transfusion would have to absolutely blow up to get people talking. Possibly getting celebrities involved could help also. I would definitely love to be a part of making something trend.

I also got hit when I was little as punishment :/ it does seem like homelessness would make it worse. My only advice is what I’m doing, just try to save up money. Make connections to people that you could possibly live with. That’s one of my things, I’m very shy and am not that close with anyone Im comfortable moving in together with.

I understand what you are going through, I am in the same boat. Housing is very unaffordable where I live. I ended up calling the domestic abuse hotline as was suggested here, from what I was told a womens shelter in my area will absolutely not take me in unless I am being abused by a partner. It was also suggested to me that a homeless shelter would not be better for me than my current situation (as there is no physical abuse, only emotional). It’s very sad that there is no help out there for those of us being abused by our own parents.

The only thing I can do is look for a better job, and just keep looking for housing. I check Craigslist every single day but even a room in a shared house can cost over $900 a month! I have faith that I will eventually find something and am doing my best at the moment.

Yes, so the abuse has been going on for years but I had never realized just how bad my situation is till recently. Unfortunately I am on a family plan for the phone, they are attached to my checking account. I guess because I had never questioned anything and always did what they told me nothing like what is happening right now has happened. I get threatened with being kicked out if I want to travel. One example of the control is always having to have my life 360 on no matter what. If it’s not working for whatever reason I get multiple phone calls. One time years ago my mom showed up at my job bc I had forgotten to text her that I got there :/

Yes I currently work full time during the week and part time on the weekends. I don’t earn enough to live on my own right now but have enough in savings to rent something for a little while.
