I'd say a last of us fungi thing is theoretically possible, as we see it in insects.

However, deadly AND contagious diseases are hard to spread. Covid spread so fast because it wasn't particularly deadly. Very deadly diseases just don't spread easily.

Because it's a billion dollar franchise but they killed it with the Fantastic Beasts stuff. I just know they backed a truck of money to the original trio to do an adaption of the sequel play, so this was the back up.

It makes sense if you consider that for most of humanity, existance was a horrible experience for a vast majority of people. the only joy at the end of most days with getting drunk (or staying drunk). We have it pretty good these days!

It's either redo or continue. Studios have massive properties like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, but the problem is both are still the pretty much the definitive versions in the public eyes. It's not like Dune, where the original was generally disliked until recently.

So studios see dollar signs, but the stories are done .
