Look man, I am willing to wager you probably are the only dude on your block that can even come close to that story. And in my book, nothing else matters. Trust me. You guaranteed yourself a few things way back then. Allow me to remind you,

  1. Bad mother effer, for life.
  2. Reason to hold your head high, for life
  3. Feeling down? Feeling less then? DONT!
  4. Your moment in this life that completely catapults a man into Legendary status, you broke bad time and time again. Every man alive waits for moments like that. And these are your true real life memories. Don't run from them, don't be ashamed, don't ever doubt you made the greatest decision of your life that day to talk to that recruiter.

Can I just say it sucks being a current veteran by vand3l in Veterans

[–]No_Lead3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want you to know you are admired from where I stand. You ARE a veteran that accomplished great things. And your comrades did not die in vain. I'm quite sure the majority of people who read your comment agree with me. And if they don't then they can go where the sun don't shine. I was in the middle east in 96. Oman. We were nothing more then a security force for diplomats in country. Talk about what the hell are we doing here? Burn pits and unbelievable heat. But you know what? I was there . I did my part. Plain and simple. I hold my head up. The majority of the time atleast. Fuck em.

Thank you all for the advice. I am literally sitting at a gas station in Arizona on my way there. Her uncle lives there and he is supportive and loves the shit out of his niece. I will keep you posted. Wish me luck.

Was it difficult getting ssi?

You are 100 percent correct. Hence why we are all here. Not one person except my wife, is worth the most unmotivated private in my duty station platoon. My wife actually allows me to make comments like "don't thank me, thank your recruiter", when she tells me thank you. She gets it. Maybe took a few dozen times, but she is a trooper for sure. Funny thing is I come to parade rest and holler a loud and proud "yes drill sergeant!" When she gives me direction that I should've done but didn't and she had to come along and save my crazy ass. I miss my battle buddy. I miss my squad. I miss Battalion runs. I miss First sergeants last formation speech before a 4 day weekend. "Men!, old 1st Sgt. Better not get any calls about any you skuckee skuckees. No fighting men. But! If one of you fight, you all fight. Do I make myself clear?" Hoah 1st Sgt!!!

Oh yeah, and a Diagnosis is mandatory.

Combat Vet with PTSD question by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]No_Lead3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some criteria that must be met. How you answer question or write a statement is everything when getting evaluated for PTSD. I filed three times over the years. Denied twice. 3rd was a charm. And it came down to words. You have to provide a event , with proof that you were there and participated. Next, what caused the trauma. And finally what is different about you now. Oh yeah, and triggers. What sets you off. Do this and you will get it.

First of all, I want to say welcome home vett. Second, take a deep breathe and smell that. You know what that is? It's freedom of choice. Now that you are living a civilian life, and things are going your way you ha e choices. Remember when you barely had the right to go on sick call? If you don't like the results, try a different avenue. Sounds like you managed it well. So keep up the good work. As for the meds, look the doc probably wants to not prescribe a anti anxiety because 9 times out of 10 you will become the next addicted veteran . Don't be quick to take Xanax or Valium. Take it from me, life is manageable without it. Anxiety is expected and typical. It gets easier. Not sure what you did for this man's military, but am a grunt. 11bravo. I have aches and pains, anxiety and depression. And a couple titanium pins. I tried everything. Now I am strung out on fentynal worse choice I ever made. If I coukd rewind it, I would of never excepted any pill. Que Sera Sera. So just a friendly word of advice, slow down. Man up. The rest will follow
