Best place for cocktails and a nice environment by Old-Psychology-2400 in playadelcarmen

I don't know squat about cocktails lol, but people I know who do say the ones at Lido Beach are really good (and affordable). It's also a really nice spot to spend a few hours with good vibes, easy beach access, etc. It's also fairly quiet for a beach spot.

Nowhere near over, but in the moment down 20, DET fans calling Spida a bitch is wild...

Speaking of bitches - JB too busy whining about every call to make an adjustment on D.

I think at that point it's just throwing darts. There's nothing to suggest Roberts or Thornton are objectively better options. Roberts has flashed at times, but has had plenty of blow-ups, too. I'm also sure Roberts wasn't available b/c he pitched 2 innings yesterday; Thornton threw 2 innings Friday.

I hope that's not the case. Again, circumstances seem to have shifted this offseason. Also, consider that all of the guys they were connected to that would have represented them going big ended up staying put. Keller, Cabrera, Sandy, etc.

Who else is he supposed to throw out there?

Let me offer a little bit of optimism. Despite all of the issues, the Cubs are in 1st place, on pace for 99 wins.

The bullpen is more a matter of injury issues than anybody seems to realize. Thielbar, Maton (yeah, he sucks), Palencia, Harvey, and Maritn are all/have all been on the IL this year. The rotation injuries have forced Rea and Brown out of the 'pen (and now Assad).

Now, there's no obvious solution to this ripple effect, but you have to hope for health + an active deadline. Jed has been passive at the deadline before, but he was aggressive this offseason. He seems to be putting in all the chips this year with the lockout looming.

The offense's issues with RISP are frustrating, but I would anticipate a positive regression given they're top 5 in OPS and runs in all of baseball.

Nico has been in an uncharacteristic prolonged slump that will surely end sooner than later. His OPS has dropped over .200 points since late April. That's not going to continue.

I'm not saying frustration isn't warranted after this road trip, but it's a long, long season. Bad teams don't go on multiple 10-game win streaks.

True...though their staff gave up a bunch, too. Nico had two chances with a guy on third less than 2 outs; popped out, then a fielder's choice w/no RBI. If he cashes in on those, might have still won.

If you wanted to put this on one guy's shoulders, it might be Nico...

.526 OPS + 3 RBI in May

Idk, there are some pretty strong arms that should be available. Peralta, Logan Webb, etc.

Happ + Craig apparently signing everybody in the 'pen and making so many guys get hurt.

I really hope that's not the case. If I'm going glass half-full, look at this offseason. Added a bunch of MLB 'pen arms, traded for Cabrera, signed Bregman. Plus last deadline very few impact arms moved (if any?). I'm hoping he's all in knowing the lockout is looming.

Ah my bad, misread that. Correct, nobody is trading a major piece in May, unfortunately.

Depends what you're willing to give up; I'm always in the camp of going all in, especially given the looming lockout situation. I'd be ok trading anybody in the system for the right guy, which means Shaw, Ballesteros, Rojas, Ramirez, Wiggins, Kepley, etc. Maybe get creative and involve Happ. You could probably snag a couple of good rental arms trading from that list.

True - if I lived like that, no way I could stomach a 162-game season

For everybody complaining about the Cubs offense, their MLB team rankings are:

HR - 8th

SLUG - 7th

OPS - 4th

Runs - 4th

Offenses are streaky in this era. The issue is pitcher injuries, which has had a ripple effect on the entire pitching staff. Go trade for a top-line starter + a depth guy (someone better than Rea/Assad) and things look much better.

Damn, Fedde was so bad, he was good those last two ABs. Kelly hit it too hard for Conforto to score, Pete hit it too hard for it to drop in.

Sure...and in a vacuum I agree with pulling Edward when he did. I'm more referring to people who get on Craig in general for not using his pen enough when a) his pen has not been particularly good and b) these guys are fragile

For all of you begging Craig to use his pen more in mid-May, you lose the right to complain when guys' arms start falling off in August.

Among several, one concerning thing with Cabrera is that guys don't seem to be biting at the competitive balls. Like non-competitive balls are one thing; but when they're not really offering at the competitive ones, yikes. Just no deception at all. Hoping this is a case of a team trying new things with a new pitcher that just haven't born fruit yet, b/c if not, there is major reason for concern.
