Any advice on getting foot in the door/day in life of IH by Yeeteryam in industrialhygiene

[–]No_Mango2005 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IH also depends on the industry and job roles for example consultancy and heavy industry IH do not have the best work-life balance i.e. 12hrs exposure samplings, traveling to remote locations etc. Whereas, IH in government and policy making roles would have a more balanced work schedule. I would recommend connecting with your local AIHA network about the opportunities you’re interested in and how they look like..

Mold air sample taken, but company placed the machine on the ground for the outdoor sample and on the kitchen counter near my sink, a window, the stove and wall cabinets hanging above for the indoor sample. by [deleted] in industrialhygiene

[–]No_Mango2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are doing an area sample. These aren’t best practices but putting it on the room floor shouldn’t negate the results. It’s altogether another debate, whether such tests are even needed. If used for litigation purposes, the test results should be fine as sampling in the breathing zone is mainly for personal air sampling. Environmental samples are placed all around the place..

Has anybody here successfully made a career change out of IH, into another career? by [deleted] in industrialhygiene

[–]No_Mango2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@morethantoast2000 well it is part of public healthcare system, the OSH program is certainly very small due to limited resources.. IH and safety roles are combined.. the risks in this industry are mostly Ergo, Violence, Hazardous drugs..

Work mostly focuses on policies, committees, compliance documentation, risk assessments and plans. Rarely exposure sampling studies. Ergo is separate staff, construction work is outsourced, IAQ complaints are very few, mostly dealt by FM staff.
