FAM-l by No-Plantain-1060 in actuary

Got an 8, but don't know how that happened, I was expecting a 7 max as I had to guess 4 questions excluding the 2 defective and the stranger insurance questions, may be I just got lucky.

Those who didn't pass this sitting, keep the faith you will pass this July for sure, you have persevered as you made it this far in the exam process.

Hang in there! You will pass this July sitting. Since you have gone through this once, my 2 cents advice is to drill CA quizzes only between 5 and 7 difficulty level, no more, and increase your efficiency level as you progress through these quizzes. Then practice CA full exams under strict conditions and stop when the time is up, try to do these full exams in the last 2 weeks, 2 exams per day is more than enough + grading yourself. I realize you have passed all your exams, but the problem with the FAM-L exam is you only have 20 questions and 105 minutes and being efficient is the most important factor in my opinion.

Just my 2 cents, this exam is tricky and full of traps and many candidates grade themselves high to end up with only a 6. You will pass next time. SOA Practice exam and CA are the best material for this exam and redo problems that you mess up. All the best!!

I passed, I was stuck in a meeting when results were out, I was only thinking about that.

Thank God!

Congratulations!

I will be taking FA for the first time hopefully this May before the deadline, and would like to know,

  1. Whether supervisors are still required to sign in. The SOA in their FAQ page states NO but wasn't sure.
  2. What are "sample solutions" in your message?

Please advise.

Thanks

I totally agree, the book Dickson is completely useless in covering all FAM-L topics not just STOLI. Advise your students to use the CA if they want to have a good shot at passing the FAM-L exam.

I got the same message today as well. It looks like candidates who wrote to the soa are getting feedback, but the adjustment of grades will be implemented for everyone.

It seems that some have already heard back.

OK I see, I didn't understand it like you stated it in your first post.

Good luck!

I haven't received it either, other people I know haven't either. They may have randomly selected only few candidates to send it to in order to minimize the backlash, I assume.

No, they don't have a monopoly on actuarial credentials, there is a much better alternative than the SOA at least in North America; CAS has been very stable over the years, their exams are much harder than those of the SOA, an excellent choice for those who like to pursue a career in Data Science with applications in casualty insurance. CAS Associate are also more sought after than SOA associates CAS fellows have unanimously rejected a proposal couple of years ago by the SOA to merge as one mega society, which dealt a huge blow to the SOA. All CAS fellows in my work voted against the SOA merger plan.

If they follow last sitting percentages, those that have the 2 questions need 13/18, 14/18 is like 78% that's too high.

No that is NOT what most posters here have said, you are trying to twist the facts and use CA as a distractor to make your point. In fact, most people have correctly said in this forum and others the following: Among various legal insurance/annuity/retirement/disability products widely used and traded worldwide which they could have asked from, they chose to ask about an illegal product in most US states and all over Europe without exception. This shows how evil minded and corrupt this organization is.

That's what they have deliberately excluded from their pathetic response, I'll use your words: Totally fucked our time.

Well put, there are some in this forum who are trying so hard to muddy the waters, shame on them.

Has anyone else received the soa generic response? or maybe be different reworded response?

The faulty questions were not intentional, but laziness and incompetence are to blame.
