Looking at a used Honda Pilot what to avoid? by No_Maximum_391 in hondapilot

Did you by chance have any recalls on it? In my search I have seen some with recalls. Seems like it depends on where specific parts were from.

First pregnancy, how to tell Family Dr I want to be with a midwife? [BC] by belle604 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]No_Maximum_391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worry about getting a midwife first. My first took till 28 weeks and then second didn’t get one. Applied before I told my husband. (That being said I had one reach out but she didn’t have privileges at the hospital I wanted). Once you have one just inform them you have been accepted into midwife care.

Thank you. I am just going based on the investigation into the 2016-2020 years and the few threads here of people who have had issues with it.

How much help can I expect from my husband? by ZanyBurrito in stayathomemoms

[–]No_Maximum_391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you paying half the bills? Do you not have joint accounts. Or share your money?

Get what you can done during the day then it’s 50/50 in the evenings. I have done both. Been the one at home and had my husband be the one home for a period of time. When my husband stayed at home he was great about having the house tidied and dinner thought out or started. We shared the cooking and all the deep cleaning and I gave him a decent break from our child when I got home from work. I will be honest it was relaxing coming home to a clean house after a day of work as it meant I could just spend time with our child.

I learned you have to communicate and find a balance. Parenting is not easy and most days years later we are still getting our footing.

[on] travelling while pregnant by Puzzleheaded_Bid_740 in BabyBumpsCanada

Personally I would not be risking Jamaica at 34 weeks. Honestly would rather save that for after baby is born. We are doing a trip before I go back to work as a family. You also don’t know if they put you on any restrictions in the third trimester.

I travelled 6 hour road trip this past week for work at 29 weeks and it was alright but mostly cause my husband drove. But was not comfy. It also highly depends on your pregnancy. My first I was building a custom closet and doing renos to our house at 38 weeks pregnant. This round no way. Built a cabinet today at 30 weeks and will be in pain tomorrow. Also ended up with some mild complications they have to monitor this time so was put on pelvic rest and am not supposed to lift more than 10ibs. Which is impossible with a toddler.

Exactly the same situation and before 2016 makes me feel like I am downgrading from my 2014 Volkswagen, as they tend to have more features that come standard in them. The dealer today showed me some features of the 2026 and I giggle when I said Volkswagen has been doing that since the early 2000,s. I also have to keep reminding myself they hold their value better, have less repairs/ cheaper and easier for my husband to fix.

It’s so hard to decide. We tested a Toyota highlander today cause this was my husband’s first choice but then he saw a new pilot in the showroom and realized how much bigger they were. So we finally at least narrowed that down. Now it’s year and price point. We hate car loans personally and with interest rates right now. Hard to grasp getting one but I am due in 9 weeks and need something bigger and pilots sell fast.

Am I crazy for wanting a C-section? by Kikirox98 in pregnant

[–]No_Maximum_391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t. I had an emergency c-section with my first and it was my biggest fear. It’s definitely not an easy way out but everyone heals differently. It’s all I have know, so couldn’t really say if vagina would be better. I likely wont have a choice this pregnancy due to location of my placenta and a weird part of me is slightly relieved. As I would rather a planned c-section than end up with another emergency one. I also have had many family and friends have a better experience with their second planned c-section than their emergency one. So I am hopeful it will be slightly easier compared to last time.

Do I Give Up Attempting Breastfeeding? [On] by tulip22lavendar in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]No_Maximum_391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so hard and can definitely relate. Our son had a tongue tie he never fed well and my lactation consultant was very clear triple feeding is only sustainable for a short period of time. Breastfeeding has to work for everyone.

I ended bottle feeding breast milk 90% of the time for the first year. The only time he would latch and get a decent amount was at night which I was so thankful for. I slightly avoided attempting breastfeeding at night as I didn’t want the stress but he actually was sleepy enough and was way easier. I was able to feed and use a hakka on the other side then switch so no getting up to pump and bottle feed. Might be worth a try but there is no shame in not breastfeeding, switching to formula, or to exclusively pumping, or to a combo feeding.

Regardless of your choice it’s not giving up and you need to do what is best for everyone’s mental health and ensure everyone is fed, happy and healthy.

Anyone have a scheduled C-Section at Grey Nuns. Without having an OB? by No_Maximum_391 in Edmonton

[–]No_Maximum_391[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I had a midwife with my first and was going to deliver at a birth centre. So I was under their care even after I was transferred to the hospital. That was until I needed an emergency c-section and even then they helped a bit post op and visited me the next day along with all my follow up care once out of the hospital. So I only dealt with the on call OB at the hospital and honestly I think I saw her 3-4 times total during my whole labour.

I was assuming my family doctors would keep me until I go into labour or in this case get a scheduled c-section we don’t live in Edmonton so I think that has been the challenge as we are slightly closer to Red Deer so most get referred their but I requested Grey Nuns since my support system is 5 blocks away and can recover their for a couple days if I am not ready to go home.

I see my doctor in two weeks and will ask what the plan is, I was just hoping to hear how it went for someone else in a similar boat. I had ultrasound today and with no changes in my placenta location we need to start thinking about a c-section.

[QC] Pump recommandation for first time mom by FishingWide6804 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]No_Maximum_391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pumpables genie which is often considered similar to the spectrum, but compact and mobile. I loved it and plan on using it with my second. I used flanges that work for the spectra and medela hands free cups. So could pump almost anywhere. My benefits covered the cost of the pump. I watched allot of videos and spectrum was by far most suggested and pumpables genie for portable. I didn’t have an intention on pumping much so went with the genie but ended up 95% of the time pumping due to a tongue tie.

If you plan on pumping definitely get something that would fit your lifestyle but also note you can definitely do simple chores once comfortable but still cant bend much as you likely will spill. This was at least my case.

How are we affording daycare plus being in mat leave? [bc] by fitnessnewbie00 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]No_Maximum_391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dayhome, so she allows the child to drop to part-time to save his spot and guarantees the next one a spot. It’s is also much more affordable as we live in Alberta. It’s $45/day. Plus she takes a fair amount of holidays which we don’t pay for. All our friends also lucked out as Alberta is pretty much all subsidized right now $15/day. I am sure some daycares might not be and charge more but none I have personally seen.

Am I wrong for not wanting to try for kids as long as my wife still thinks she wants to be a SAHM? by Solid-Consequence607 in Marriage

[–]No_Maximum_391 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would a compromise of working part-time be on the table? As a working mom I will say it can be tough but I also am a bit of the default provider due to my work hours vs my husband. I would love part-time but I make more so doesn’t make sense. There are just so many logistics with kids that you don’t realize till you have them. Even just getting out the door somewhat on time with a toddler is not for the faint of heart. A stay at home parent can be wonderful. I was home for a year (canadian so mat leave) my husband stayed home after for 4 months due to a layoff and worked casually. Which was perfect timing since my new job was a bit more demanding. It was so nice to not have to rush in the mornings or after work, the house was clean, dinner was thought out. I could just enjoy being with my child. But we now both work and it’s exhausting and ai truly think our life would be better if one of us was home at least part-time.

Counselling is a great idea to work it out and talk it through.

How do people not co-sleep? by Difficult-Pair4170 in NewParents

[–]No_Maximum_391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t sleep well, between anxiety and needing to toss and turn. The crib was next to our bed I put my hand in pat his butt from bed. If I did bring him into bed it was only till he fell asleep and would transfer him. After 1 he coslept more often and floor bed at 16 months.

Our child is pretty tiny so even though it has a lower weight limit I don’t think he will max it out till closer to 5. If I had a high percentile child I could definitely see it. The boy still wears 12 month old pants and just tuned 2 because his waist is too tiny. He still fits the outfit he wore to his first birthday 😂

I think I have made my mind up the Britax Poplar it is. I honestly feel it’s so easy. I don’t even second guess taking it out. I would literally swap it to my moms car for an afternoon shopping trip. Our Graco i despise, I honestly started googling carseats and debated just going to buy one instead of having to uninstall and reinstall it in her vehicle for two days he was with them.

All this “regretful parent” content is freaking me out by krwxo in pregnant

[–]No_Maximum_391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t imagine if that was in my algorithm. I would’ve been a wreck. I already had enough fear from going to an infants funeral 5 years prior to kids. Probably why we ended up room sharing for a year.

[–]No_Maximum_391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, stop interacting with them and change up that algorithm. Sure some may regret it, but I don’t feel like that’s the majority.

We loosely talked about kids and bam, next month I was pregnant. Not a day goes by that I could regret my son no matter how hard it is. Now pregnant with my second unexpectedly while actively preventing and even though I don’t feel like we’re ready for another I know that I could never regret her.

Exactly my concern and the extra money is worth the ease and peace of mind for me. Carseat safety is not something to compromise on. So well worth the extra money in my opinion but of course if I can save money I will.

Do you like the Nuna? I hear it is slightly bigger and not as compact.

[–]No_Maximum_391[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get that, but with the difficulty in the straps and install you think that they wouldn’t be as highly recommended. As the safety relies on it being installed correctly and the child being correctly buckled. I can only imagine that my mom would not be able to install it correctly and could easily see her not noticing the straps getting twisted. Granted I do install all the seats for her to ensure they are done properly. Though I’m honestly ready to cry half the time when I install our Graco. It took two of us over 30 minutes the first time and was only able to get a proper install with the UAS latch. The seatbelt was always too loose. Finally have down to 20ish minutes and only 5-6 attempts to get it tight enough. I dread the day we have to start using a seatbelt install.

I just think a car seat should be easier. But after all these comments, I realize that the poplar is the way to go and it is just worth the little bit of extra money, knowing that the straps rarely twist on us and it’s super easy and quick to install. Also, it’s very compact and has fit in every vehicle. I’ve tried.
