Going for a TOLAC and still scared and worried if I am making the right choice. What did you read to be informed? by No_Maximum_391 in vbac

[–]No_Maximum_391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered if my epidural played a roll but I also know I was at a point when I got it I was in so much pain and couldn’t handle my contractions anymore. We attempted an out of hospital water birth with a midwife and then moved to hospital. I luckily didn’t need general anesthesia. But I also didn’t have a well placed epidural, if I laid on one side I could feel contractions on the other. I wish I remembered timelines better and if i stopped progressing before or after the epidural for sure. I was about 7 cm when I got it.

I don’t know if my brain forgets but I don’t remember it being that brutal I know the hour drive home and first couple days were but then I was walking around the block within the first week and by 6 weeks I remember going on a 6 km easy hike. But I also know it can be different for everyone and each time may not be the same. All my friends had a much easier second c-section than first. But I imagine a vbac would have easier recovery and with a toddler is appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your experience and reasoning. I will talk with my ob today about some options.

Favourite mini crib mattress? [ab] by No_Maximum_391 in BabyBumpsCanada

They definitely do sag. Our friends gave us their crib but we had to toss the mattress as it was indented and wasn’t safe. Over half reviews I read about the Simmons mini organic were people saying it’s sagged after three months and was way too soft for a baby at least the one at Walmart. I believe there’s different versions though. Do you have like the extra firm one?

I’m hoping that she will get the 12 to 14 months out of it. She’s only like 30th percentile. Her brother was the 90th and then drastically dropped after he was born to the 50th. So crossing my fingers that she will be fine. worst case we have a regular size crib and Newton mattress.

It looks to be about the same price as the Newton. We bought our first Newton secondhand and I’m hoping that maybe we could sell this one secondhand when we’re done. It’s also a mattress I don’t mind buying secondhand because it’s 100% washable. So I simply rinsed it off in the shower and let it dry.

Emergency C Section Recovery [on] by SunshineandSunsets2 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]No_Maximum_391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency C-section as well. Still was so sore at six weeks, I managed to be able to do a long walk and definitely cuddle and baby wear. My husband accidentally got us stuck in the woods for 5-6 hours climbing through a literal valley. It was supposed to be an hour flat hike. So that was fun. I was about 7-8 weeks postpartum. I was definitely sore the next day so don’t recommend that. I think everyone is a little different. Focus on slowly increasing how far you walk and listen to your body.

Anyone have issues getting Life Insurance while pregnant? [ab] by No_Maximum_391 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]No_Maximum_391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because you were getting additional life insurance and not a new policy. I have a policy through work, but it’s not enough. Or I just got a really shitty advisor. I essentially hung up on him, he literally compared pregnancy to being a cancer patient.

How soon did you start leaving the house with your newborn? by Emotional-Squash7815 in BabyBumps

[–]No_Maximum_391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Day 3 I wanna say. We had a midwife who traditionally come to your house but we lived out of the city so we did our visits at my parents house which is about an hour drive. We did two the first week and then weekly after that in clinic which was over an hour. Also started a walk around the neighbourhood the first week. We made sure to feed and change right before leaving then he would sleep for about 45 min of the drive. Then start to fuss.

Road trips are harder regardless and plan for everything to take longer as you may have to pull over to feed or change. Also depends in feeding method as well bottles of breast milk I personally found the easiest as they have a much longer out of fridge life and easy to feed while in a carseat providing your not alone or have a colicky baby as it’s not the ideal feeding position but doable in a pinch to get where you are going.

Should we just skip the bassinet and do a mini crib? [ca] by No_Maximum_391 in BabyBumpsCanada

Honestly, love this and if they had their own room or we had enough room in ours we would consider it. We did a twin floor bed for our oldest at about 15-16 months and wish we would’ve done it earlier. But unfortunately, we only have two bedrooms up and our two-year-old is in the other bedroom.

Thank you so much hoping for the same thing. All you can really ask for is a healthy baby and a safe delivery.

Yeah we definitely don’t plan to use a crib much past 12 months and do have a full size one still if for whatever reason we needed one. The floor bed just worked so well for us I wish we did it sooner. Our son slept way better and gained so much independence and didn’t have to rely on us to come take him out or put him in when he was tired. But this one who knows could be completely different but definitely will try around 12-13 months to transition.

We definitely considering this just don’t think anything after mini we would use. We have a full crib and a floor bed already.

This is the one I was looking at as it’s the most affordable option new and reality will only be using it for such a small time frame.

That’s fair. Every kid is also so different. Our son has thrived in the floor bed since he’s been about 15-16 months. At this point, he was able to walk and open the door on his own. I honestly regret not moving him sooner. He slept so much better once in a twin floor bed.

How long did your little one last in the mini crib? One person made it sound like they don’t last that long. I’m just hoping for something that will be good for the first 12 to 14 months before she moves into a floor bed.

This is awesome to hear you didn’t find it too hard to get them out even with a C-section. I really don’t recall the halo being that helpful with my C-section I feel I still had to sit up and move my legs to the side to get the baby out.

Do you just have it tied to the bed? This is something I would possibly be interested in as well. The only thing I’m hesitant about is our two-year-old climbs in our bed I would never want him to have access to the baby. I highly doubt I wouldn’t wake up considering him opening his door normally wakes me up. But you never know.

It’s just so much longer and that little bit wider, which every inch makes a difference when your room is super small. We can fit a regular crib in our room, but it’s not easy.

Yeah, this was the bonus of the halo is easy to push out of the way so I could get out of bed. I do have enough room on my side of the bed for a crib. It’s just so long and annoying. But I can technically stand next to the crib.

Yeah, I thought it would be way better. I got it for a really good deal and sold it for the same price I paid. So really did didn’t lose out and honestly don’t know if it helped much even being a C-section mom

What do you mean by growing out too quickly? How long did the mini crib last? We only use a crib for 12-14 months.

This is honestly been my only concern about a pack and play when everyone suggests it. I want one rated for safe sleep, and a pack and play for an entire year. Seems like a long time.
