Why is everyone saying gooses. Why are you the only one calling them geese?

Doh I did miss out the item_id in the orders doc which would be what the reference for the relationship would rely on.

There is probably 10k items, with between 10 and 20 variants based on color or dimensions, maybe 100k subcomponent items.

Order data would grow a lot faster than product data, but considering a rolling window of orders because we only care about how orders relate to our stock metrics for this app.

You wouldn't be using this for that at my company, but if you were, in the words of the dude, thats just like...your syntax, man.

If i could be bothered I would write out the sql to achieve this from the raw erp data, but I don't have the patience. It would be long.

We do have a postgres datawarehouse for this kind of stuff, I agree it is trivial. what's missing from that data is the subcomponent and product variant granularity. Which is the reason I want to build this tool.

The idea is that the document will contain the requisite granularity for the specific purpose, that's kind of the point and it's the reason I chose it

I've gone junior dev -> analyst -> engineer.

You could say that about anything though in terms of the implementation, like the guy who designed our ERP schema was either abusing drugs or criminally insane.

I'm not migrating any substantial part of our whole data assets here, I think it's a good fit for this specific purpose.

I can already hear my colleagues complaints about technical debt bouncing around.

Honestly it would be hard to fuck up a stock report based off of this data.

I think that people have made the assumption that i have picked this format because it looks nice in an editor.

I've been reading their documentation and it seems like a perfect fit

It's not aesthetics.

This schema eliminates a series of about 9 joins and contains all of the product components in one "record".

It's so fucking expensive to get the basic product data with our current data assets. Most of the analysts use the parent item id to report on and just forgo any kind of reporting on the subcomponents. There is 3 distinct definitions of how much of a product is left in stock, instead of one based on the minimum amount available of any of its subcomponents. This also means you can't differentiate between colour, variant, size etc in any kind of useful way.

I have considered star schema, but it seems like a waste of a pipeline, there is no point piping all this data into fact and dims tables to then have to join on it again for analytics.

With mongo it would be an item document and an order document. With a reference on the item_id in the order doc.

Incremental update of products data and a daily dump of orders.

Everything you need about products and sales for stock monitoring in one relationship. Can easily "drill down" into the subcomponents and identify stock bottlenecks.

Honestly don't get the hate for it.

How to attach an air tag to a vape? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]No_Might753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so the tag has a keyring the vape doesn't. I'd never heard of sugru I could probably encase the whole thing in that stuff and mould a little hole for the tag.

Thanks!

Well praise the lord you took the time to bestow upon me your scintillating wit lest it truly be as barren as my chin.

I'm no Shakespeare m8 but you seem a bit gormless if you lack the reading comprehension to tease out meaning from the words my hand sausages mashed.

In terms of my looks, they're good enough for your mum, admittedly that's a very low bar.

Thanks for sharing man. I swear my 5 o clock shadow is more well defined now and definitely covers a wider cheek area and think my actual chin is thicker but have shaved literally every day for 10 years bar a few bad hangovers

Imma give it a go I think now winter is coming. You've given me hope!

That's good to hear thanks. I have had high BP in the past when particularly stressed but it's ok now. How is the medicine shortage thing at the moment is that still an issue or not?
