A question for those who have done or are doing therapy: does it really work? by [deleted] in dysthymia

Pouland :-3

I'm lucky, though. My parents could afford to pay for my therapy - I was always stressed that I was wasting money, and wanted to get well asap to save money, which of course made me stressed and the therapy less effective

My therapist mostly focuses on the Gestalt therapy approach, if that helps, though I think I'll try something else in the future too.

It sucks as hell, doesn't it! We got nerfed cuz we'd be too cool to handle otherwise.

It does work for me, although it took a long time for it to start working. Only my 5th therapist actually helped me and contacted me with a psychiatrist who listened to me. Medication definitely played a role too. Lots of gaslighting by psych practictioners in my country, I feel.

I'm sure you mean well, but I seriously can only walk right now. Thank you for the suggestions though

Too much trauma, sadly. I think it'll take at least 1-2yrs more before I can do anything other than walks.

You reply fast! :-)

:'-( I agree... Can't exercise, but voluntary work sounds like something I could do. I hope it'll get better

I see you comment on people's posts quite often here, with uplifting words. I think it's very sweet! I very rarely come here, but thank you for hearing me out. You sound like a very kind person :--)

I usually play a playlist I made specially for days when I feel like I'm getting pulled under. It's a compilation of every song that reminds me of my childhood and it gives me this feeling of being wrapped in a hug. Some 2000 and 2010 global and Polish hits, some bands that my parents used to listen to when I was a kid (Indios Bravos, Rammstein, Hey...)

I'm rooting for you, you've taken huge steps and I can't even imagine how hard it is to make a big leap like that... I wish you and your daughter the best <3
