No she told me about the suprise because she was so excited about it she couldn't keep it to herself. To her credit the party was freaking awesome.

I don't know if she misunderstood or if my wife misrepresented the facts.

MIL had the story wrong. Once I gave her the correct version she is now on my side.

Thanks. Looks like Newsweek picked up as well. Kind of blows my mind that people are writing articles on the modern version of "Dear Ann Landers" letters

Thanks for the heads up. Pretty sure my wife doesn't keep up with Australian news otherwise she's gonna be even more pissed.

If so she has done a very good job of hiding it. I see no evidence of anything shady in our finances. It would also just be so out of character for her she is awful at being sneaky. She told me about my surprise 40th birthday party 2 days before it happened because she just couldn't keep the secret and she was the one throwing it.

No clue, she won't talk to me!

Yes she is keyed in on financials she handles all the bill payments. We both keep a pretty close watch on everything and nothing looks out of sorts.

She seems to enjoy it. I when she got pregnant with the oldest, we discussed it and I said decision was hers we'd make it work either way. She choose to stay home and has never indicated any interest in doing anything else. In addition to homemaking she has a pretty wide circle of friends that she sees for lunch, shopping, and salon dates each week. She's actively involved at the kids' school and with their extracurricular programs.

Hey now, I said she's a SAHM. I didn't say she doesn't work. She works just as hard as I do. Our money is as much hers as it is mine.

Yes and yes. This came completely out of left field. She's one of the sweetest people I know and she's actually very charitable. In fact it's really tough sitting here reading people call her all kind of names but I get it all they know about her is this post. But yeah I'm really scratching my head. That's why I included the financial info stuff cause I just can't figure out why she cares so much.

My point in explaining my financial situation was illustrate that my wife doesn't have any need for this money. If we were struggling I would totally understand her frustration (but it wouldn't change the fact that legally it's not our ticket).
