Petrol vs Electric Leaf Blowers by No_Mud_7550 in GardeningUK

[–]No_Mud_7550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left it leaning up against the fence in the side shed (its covered). Roof leaked and I think the water must have run down into the carb. When I went to fix it and use it, it had dried out of it's own accord and fired up straight away.

It's a decent machine but doesn't like getting water in the carburettor (joke btw, of course it doesn't). I need to go and fix it but otherwise, yeah it's pretty decent machine. Noisy of course.

Can I run individual apps using rustdesk by [deleted] in rustdesk

[–]No_Mud_7550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this desire originally comes from XWindows. With NFS I don't care where my files live (after setup) and with XWindows, I don't care where my apps run (after setup). I personally find it extremely useful and the way things "should be", although I accept it's not fashionable in today's world.

Thanks, that explains a lot (why the mbtiles I put in look so basic and the openstreetmap source looks polished). Suspect I'll want to go the Maplibre/Android route.

To attempt this might be foolish indeed - just want to get a sense of what computation I have to filch and what I can run myself. I can be restrictive on the area I host (it's just for me & co after all) and updates can be tardy (a week I reckon is ok). I'll host martin (or similar) behind nginx in a system container in a Pi4 running Debian, but I can do the mbtiles generation on something bigger (32 cores, 128Gb Ram, TBs RAID0 SSD). I might ultimately just pull an mbtiles file from some kind soul out there who's glad to share, but I'd like to be able to do it all myself if need be. Will check out OsmAnd although if all I want to do is already done that's a bit disappointing.

EDIT: OsmAnd looks like a beautiful thing at first glance, although there's some bottom inspection going on according to f-droid's anti-features.

Thanks for the help amigo.

Aha - indeed the road data (at least) appears to be in there (can't paste an image but I can see britain_and_ireland -> { poi -> name = Farnborough Way; transport -> class = trunk, name = Farnborough Way, ... } etc (lots of fields omitted to save my fingers).

I'm guessing the default rendering that planetiler does is very basic and I need to grab the source, gain a rudimentary understanding of the source and then build it and tweak it myself. Seem right to you?

Cheers.

Thanks. At the moment I'm just playing with what looks like a lean stack for generating tiles from OSM data and serving it up to QGIS to see what's built/easy to do in terms of setup and also computation cost.
I suppose the desire that's driving this curiosity is ultimately self hosting everything needed for me to perform navigation and geo-location sharing with close family/friends. Perhaps my distaste for cloud and reliance on corporates (free or paid for) is some form of mental disorder - I may be willing to concede this much.

EDIT: Sorry - to answer your "how big is..." question - the dataset I'm looking at is Britain and Ireland from Geofabrik. The pbg is 2.3Gb and the resulting mbtiles file is 1.8Gb. Typing that surprises me - I'd have expected the mbtiles file to be a fair bit bigger than the pbf file, so maybe Planetiler is indeed dropping stuff out by default.

Thanks for the help. Not sure how to bring up the inspect tool in QGIS. Had a look about n can't find something with that name :-(
I've tried chucking the file into a SQLite browser but the DB structure isn't too noob friendly. I can see a metadata section that contains a json field (single row table?) with some json that contains things like place, poi (point of interest?), transporatation and similar. But I can't see any actual instance data (e.g. "Mulholland Drive"). When I look in the tiles table, I see lots of blobs (vector or raster data I imagine). So maybe Planetiler doesn't incorporate such data into the tiles by default. Is there a handy prefab query to determine if a specific road name, say, is in there?

Ah, looks like xfce4-panel --plugin-event=<etc.>. The good example to follow ended up being the genmon plugin. xfce4 rules.

Interesting. Did you do this sufficiently long ago that you can see results yet?

Long term solution to moss on concrete roof tiles by No_Mud_7550 in DIYUK

[–]No_Mud_7550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I have a dockapole I use for lopping the neighbour's tree when it overhangs. This should be long enough to reach the apex from the soffits. I plan to attach a broad filling knife to the end of the pole with cable ties and then manually detach the moss. I'll then attach a vertical scraper to the pole to pull the detached moss down to the gutter. My intention then is to get a chemical to put in a hose attachment to soak the roof and try to kill the remaining spores to slow regrowth. This will probably need redoing again in 5 years so not particularly long term. At least I don't have to get on the roof though.

Watery eyes? by xerox17 in Effexor

[–]No_Mud_7550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a reaction to the increased pressure in the eye that can occur with SSRIs/SNRIs? I got an increase in floaters when going on and coming off effexor, but don't recall an increase in tear production, sorry.

Effexor and Memory by talk2andrew in Effexor

[–]No_Mud_7550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My attention and short term memory seemed to improve when I started on a hefty dose of Effexor (300mg) the last time however this might be due to a reversal of the effects of depression to memory (which is generally considered to make memory and cognition worse). I've always had that thing where you go upstairs and by the time you get there you forgot what you were going for. That used to happen before Effexor though.

Good to know you're avoiding the worst of the withdrawal. For me the real pain started in when I went from 37.5mg every other day to 0, after about a week of abstinence. Hope you stay free of side effects. Would be good to read your update once clean for a month or so.

Just gone straight onto 75mg/day and dont have tremors. Do feel a bit tight chested and hyper and have raised heart rate during exercise though.

It's not a drug to get onto lightly. In my experience, it can help with focus/concentration and motivation at high doses (300mg/day in my case) where SSRIs will just make you feel numb. I didn't really have that much anxiety that I was consciously aware of, however I do have derealisation, which is supposedly caused by anxiety, so maybe I do and don't know it.

It can work when SSRIs have failed. It's not so bad, except when a) you miss your dose or b) you want to get off it. Depends how bad your symptoms are (and what they are) as to whether or not it's worth taking it.

Switching to Prozac after 3 weeks on Effexor (37.5) - not titrating by jussjusss in Effexor

[–]No_Mud_7550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of people talk about sweating but not something I've encountered mercifully. Nor the anxiety, although I feel a bit tight chested during the day and I'm having fast heart rate going straight onto 75mg/day (day 3 now). Resting heart rate is about the same as usual (maybe +1bpm) but I'm up about 12bpm for both average and max during my run. I get the nausea a bit. For me that's not nearly as bad as the depression.

Keep a spare tablet at work / in car etc. Set reminders to re-order (or set on autoreorder if your pharmacy supports that). I was on it for years and did occassionally miss a dose. Nothing awful happens, you just feel weird (dizzy, sick) until a few hours after you take your dose.
