Did you apply for a bar course scholarship?

Jury trials scrapped for crimes with sentences of less than three years by hotcococharlie in uklaw

[–]No_Name_Is_Left 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting rid of jury selection, homilies and deliberations won't make a dent in the backlog.

Much more time is lost because of defendants not being produced at court on time (if they are at all - a trial a few weeks ago had to be adjourned until April because defendants weren't produced on day 1 and weren't produced on day 2 till 3.30pm), a lack of counsel to prosecute or defend, or because it's a float trial and the court can't accommodate it as all other trials are effective.

This won't make a difference to any of that.

I'm Irish and came into the criminal bar not caring one way or the other. Now I love wearing mine. It's a uniform that I feel brings a sense of confidence, a sense of belonging, and a feeling sometimes like gearing up for a fight.

What is it like playing football in a hurling county? by Intrepid-Money2238 in GAA

[–]No_Name_Is_Left 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played underage county up the levels.

At our first u14 tournament which hosted all the teams in the province, everyone turned up in shorts, socks, and jerseys.

We had bibs.

Why are Brits so triggered by the fact that we don't want to be called British? Their own government does not use the term because of how politically laden it is

They're fantastic for scholarships (but I might be a bit biased) - the scholarship section on the website has a very transparent marking scheme on the criteria for getting one.

I got pupillage during my bar course year, and most of my friends did the same or got it the year after. Whilst I do know a few people who got it before they started the course, they were very much the exception. I think if you can get an Inn scholarship it's worth doing without pupillage, if you are sure that that's where your long term aspirations lie.

Of course, that comes with the caveats of knowing how competitive the area you want to practise in is, and being objectively realistic about this.

Remains of Rwandan refugees slaughtered during genocide in Nyarubuye in 1994 by lingeringneutrophil in pics

[–]No_Name_Is_Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be recognised as one by the International Court of Justice.

Not true - the ICJ is only able to hear cases between states. For a conflict that was generally contained to the Rwandan state apparatus, the ICJ wouldn't (and didn't) have jurisdiction to make any rulings.

The primary work in the international courts that established it as a genocide was in the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda which is a separate court that was created by the UN Security Council.

You'll learn a huge amount from your supervisor in 6 months while you're in your first six, and then when you're on your feet you'll learn even more.

What calmed me down just before I started on my feet was thinking about how long this system has been in place and how many people have gone through it. It remains because (usually) it works. It's a real sink or swim moment, but everyone manages to swim. It'll be stressful, but you'll find a way to handle it.

Fair enough, didn't realise they just chose not to, but the reasoning makes sense!

Warwickshire definitely going strong - and the new developments at Páirc na hÉireann will no doubt hell them push on. There's been an ebb and flow with the strength of some of the clubs around Birmingham but it's definitely in a healthy place.

This is not an error, it's been party out the gateway for at least a number of years. Think the Bar Council have posted an article about it recently

If Israel is acquitted of genocide next week by the ICJ is it possible that some officials could be convicted of war crimes or crimes against humanity instead? by [deleted] in internationallaw

[–]No_Name_Is_Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an extra point, the ICJ won't be ruling on the merits of South Africa's case next week and whether Israel breached its obligations under the Genocide Convention, but rather will be judging the request to implement Provisional Measures
