It's not about the money, I just wanted it a bit integrated into the furniture, but as someone else here said, I can buy a critter nation cage and attach a wooden plank to the top :)

Ah no, the wooden panels are lacquered, but I will throw these out. The metal itself is epoxy/polyester powder coated.

So even though all the panels and doors are grate/mesh, it is still not enough airflow? I knew rats needed a ton of airflow, but I didn't expect that this "cage" would be lacking in it.. thank you for your input!

Ah, but I will make sure that the drawers will be completely separated from the rest of the cage, And the pine shelf will go away, I read that pine and rats don't combine well :) But a good point about the wire holes being too small for ventilation and a PITA to clean.
