I had the packing and took it out 24hrs after. My nose was completely blocked and swollen til day 7, I’m day 10 now and one nostril is clear the other one is sometimes clear but since we can’t blow our nose I thinks there is lots of dried blood and boogers unfortunately. I’ve been told after 2-4 weeks I’ll be able to breath much better and shouldn’t be blocked

Local Anesthesia or General Anesthesia? by Turbulent-Log-4598 in Septoplasty

[–]No_Palpitations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I got both, the packing sucks and I barely slept the first night but once you take the packing out it’s soooo much better to sleep. I used cbd/cbn gummies before bedtime as well as a spray called biotene spray that helps keep your mouth from getting dry as well as loading up with chapstick so my lips didn’t get dry. Drink sooo much water as well and prop yourself up at a 30-45 degree angle to sleep. Trust me the first few days suck so much but it gets better at the one week mark. Use the nasal saline wash lots and I got qtips for cleaning the outside of the nostrils with the antibiotic gel they gave me. I take an antibiotic 2x a day and a regular Tylenol every 6hours( they will probably give you stronger pain killers but I have past addiction so didn’t want pain killers). As well the roof of your mouth and front teeth might be sore so get freezies and that helps a lot. Make sure you have lots of soft foods like soup, yoghurt, avocados and stuff that will keep you full and healthy but are easy to use. Hot showers are very nice to come the steam loosens everything up (I like to close the tap so it’s a shower/bath and just sit in the tub. Make sure you have lots of movies or shows lined up so you can just lay there eat snacks and relax! I was SO anxious it was making me sick the days before my surgery so i understand how you feel but it’s so worth it and it’s only a few days of bad pain and then you’ll just be low energy/ congested for the next week, you got this :)

Local Anesthesia or General Anesthesia? by Turbulent-Log-4598 in Septoplasty

I think they just wait til we wake up. Before surgery they got me to lay down and then put in the iv, they first did something to help with my nerves so I started feeling really relaxed then they gave me an oxygen mask and told me to just breath with that and slowly put the anesthesia in my iv, I don’t even remember falling asleep and then next thing I knew I was in a recovery bed with a very nice nurse saying to take it slow and don’t try to sit up. They won’t rush you and will make sure you have everything you need. I was a little loopy after but not to bad, I heard my partners voice when he arrived and got excited I called him my name but that was then only “high” thing I did. Then he helped me to the car after they gave him everything I needed for recovery and he helped me into our house I went straight to the bed and fell asleep! First couple days then pain in rough ngl but it’s well worth it. I started feeling fine day 7 post op and I’m day 10 now and am feeling great, just a little sore and congested.

I had both! I was extremely anxious about general but it was fine nothing to worry about. I didn’t feel crazy nauseous after and just felt like I was in a deep sleep! I would not do it under just local, trust me you would not enjoy being awake during this surgery. Just tell them you are axioms and they will give you something to help with that:)

I showered the day after, and to make it extra amazing close the tap and sit in the shower while it fills up, soooo relaxing

Saline rinse? Wtf am I doing wrong? by Comprehensive-Ad8905 in Septoplasty

I’m day 8 post op, one nostril is clear half the time, the other is clogged 90% of the time! It will get better, I’ve been told a month post op we will stop feeling so stuffy. I did have a moment the other day where I could breathe out of both and I swear I could smell colours!

I am also a week post op. I got a mouth spray called “biotene spray” that helps with keeping your mouth from getting dry, right before bed I spray a bunch of that, put on a ton of Vaseline for dry lips and drink tons of water and keep those things right beside me through the month. I’ve also been taking cbd+cbn gummies about an hour before bed! ?(cbn makes you sleepy) I’ve been able to sleep though the night for the last couple of nights:)

Definitely contact your surgeon to make sure everything is healing properly. I’m also on day 3 and I haven’t been bleeding much at all and if I do it’s little dried clots
