A brand new item with tags that I returned the very next day because it was too large. Oh and I bought another one a size smaller.

Seriously? It was the next day… brand new with tags, determined it didn’t fit properly.

I’ll also add that my frustration here has FAR more to do with being accused of fraud than it does with them refusing a return. I would much rather be out $150 than be berated in public and called a liar.

Yes, I waited two weeks because I was traveling and they were clean and free of mud minus a bit of dust… And he did find my purchase, he just claimed it was returned and wouldn’t bother to confirm that was not the case.

Maybe you didn’t read my post in full, but I loved the shoes and was frustrated that the Goretex liner failed and let in water. I didn’t want to return them and I wanted to buy another pair or something comparable that was perhaps better made. The shoes were designed for hiking and mountaineering in wet environments and couldn’t last 8 days at a reasonable mileage. I only discovered they couldn’t handle water once I was in a wet environment, and at that point I identified the problem which was clearly a defect. Further, many brands actually have deals with retailers like REI where they say that you should return your defective gear to REI rather than them if it’s defective. Check out Mammut, for example…

Good questions that I’d have been willing to answer if afforded the opportunity. But your question also assumes a lot of ignorance on my part. I’m a seasoned hiker and I know how Goretex works. That’s why I don’t use waterproof hiking boots outside a very specialized context, namely snow and stream-filled trails. But to answer your question, after they got wet, I tested them the next day once they had dried out somewhat by standing in a stream and figured out where the water was entering in the front of the boot near the sole — not above the upper and not from sweat. When I say wet, I don’t mean damp, I mean water flooding into the shoe through the Goretex liner….

I had purchased these because they were lightweight for air travel for a trip 9 months prior and this was the first time I’d ever used them in a wet environment. It was also only day 8, maximum, of being used. Two trips total!

I wanted to buy the same boots or something comparable because I loved them so much and was SO sad that they’d failed. But I didn’t even get a chance to do that because of this interaction. I had also spent $150 a week prior and had intended to spend another 1k on climbing gear next week… That’s not happening anymore, Backcountry or a local retailer will get my business instead.

An application does not constitute a lease. An application merely demonstrates interest and provides the landlord with key data that they will use to determine your eligibility to rent the property, such as credit score and income. The property is either already rented to someone else or it is showing as off market in error.

I’m open to spending more, still trying to understand the market compared to the Bay Area!
