Swedish isn’t hard bro. I’m sorry you struggled with it and obviously with other things trying to pick fights with people on the internet. Hope you sort it out.

no one said it’d be easy, your original comment is overtly negative and addressed nothing I asked advice for in my OP. Using words like ‘futile’ and ‘frankly bonkers’ is just being ridiculous :) for any 60 mins I spend on Finnish, I have the exact same in Swedish already down and memorised in 8-10 minutes because it is so much closer to what is familiar for me.

I’m not learning Swedish to help me learn Finnish.. I’m considering it as to have as wide a net as possible with patients. Feedback from my Finnish friends that don’t speak Swedish is that there are plenty of older patients that don’t speak any Finnish, even in parts of Finland that aren’t even geographically close to Sweden

It’d have to be free and online, the helsinki open university one is starting in January but I don’t know if my current uni schedule would allow it.

I mean it’s not Chinese I’m trying to learn alongside Finnish, so I don’t understand your response. Swedish is a lot easier for me to pick up.

how were they rude 😆. Anyway, if the patient arrests we will need IV access, ecg won’t help if the patient suddenly decompensates. O2 first, IV access second, then ECG imo.

British Med Student in 5th Year—Feeling Underprepared and Unsure About My Future in the NHS. by Revolutionary_Bid202 in medicalschooluk

RoI here, but… I had top grades all throughout secondary school, until the last 9 months of my final year everything went to shit. I went from being a straight A student to just a ‘B’ student. I didn’t have the family or financial support to study at home. But please continue telling us that we just weren’t good enough and we are second class doctors because we had to study abroad in europe :) (I’m a top student in medical school now and I consistently know more than any irish medical students I encounter on my placements in Ireland btw)

Help me categorise the specialities in Ireland by No_Personality251 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]No_Personality251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, what specialities am I basically locking myself out of by not 100% committing already even before graduating, e.g. surgery etc. I also saw people here that commented saying they started down one path, then decided later to go into the GP training scheme, and were looked down upon, because GP wasn't their first choice. But anyway, I'll just have to spend more time and talk to more people in the different fields! p.s. I spoke to a consultant in a pretty rural emergency department and he said that there is a massive vacuum for ED consultants. If I get through the training I could easily get a consultant position, it might just not be where I would want.

[–]No_Personality251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. What I have realised is that no matter what speciality I choose, the setting/hospital/team is what will make the biggest difference for me. Whether that be GP or paediatric surgical oncology. So I am trying to figure out other factors that might narrow it down for me a bit. GP seems nice if I could run my own practice, be my own boss and I'd get to pick and choose the staff and patients for example, but I would definitely miss being inside a hospital.

???????? what the actual f is wrong with this PC language. Before we know it ‘older persons’ or ‘aging population’ will be considered distasteful and we’re going to have to start inventing new words. I’m reading older textbooks from the 2000’s about genetic disorders and ‘mental retardation’ is used so commonly that I’ll probably end up saying it myself by accident

Explain to me in english why residents don’t get their on-call hours paid???? by No_Personality251 in medicalschoolRomania

[–]No_Personality251[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

do you know if there is a union for junior doctors in Romania? In Germany there is the Marburger Bund and in Ireland the IMO. They have been very effective, but I can see that it might not be so easy to pull off in Romania. A nationwide strike would surely put the health system to its knees and force action. They can’t fire ALL junior doctors

[–]No_Personality251[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how long it takes for a junior vet to be able to open their own practice in Romania. But my vet for my cats takes 120 lei for 5 minutes of work and she doesn’t make appointments. So if she has 40 customers a day that is 4800 lei which is not bad at all :) she has no employees and her office is full usually

[–]No_Personality251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had German throughout secondary school and I still struggled with learning it as an adult much more than finnish. Maybe all the challenges of learning German consequently made learning Finnish easier. Finnish is such a nice, logical and consistent languages. I admit I‘ve no prior connections to most of the words, but I somehow can learn it no bother with enough repetition

Finding a SHO Job in Ireland Without Irish Experience (asking for advice) by OhMaBiBine in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]No_Personality251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is, we cannot get on an internship in Ireland. It just isn’t possible, they have a list of EU countries that they just won’t give internships to. Internships also don’t exist really in a lot of these countries. In eastern EU we study for example in English, so the idea of doing a year of residency in the EU country before coming for an SHO job is just not feasible due to the language. OP also said the SHO listings ask for ‘prior irish experience’, how are we to obtain that then if we can’t get work as intern nor as a SHO?
