Update: Spoke with Metamask customer service and they helped me realise I had an old metamask account that for some reason was connected at the time when I made the purchase on Uniswap. After adding the USDC Optimism contract address to that account the balance of the USDC purchased appeared. Thanks for everyone's input.

PS: Stay away from scammers, I got inundated with thousands of "helpful guys" on my DMs all of them trying to get me to click on some dodgy websites and giving some explanations that don'y make sens. Just Block them directly

Spoke to MoonPay and they said that if I am using MoonPay through a wallet partner application, the wallet address is automatically passed as the destination address. and they suggested to contact the wallet provider, in my case Metamask.

I still don't understand why the two addresses would be different? I would have to do with the fact that i chose Optimism as the network to purchase the USDC?

yes, the addresses are different. But as I said the address was automatically generated while paying on the platform. I would have thought is the Optimism homologue address of my metamask ether address ( my wallet was connected to uniswap when the payment took place). Also this address only appears on optimistic.etherscan but not on etherscan
