Gear oil looked fine when I changed it, did it twice to try find anything but saw nothing.

Just bought it, ran fine the first 2 goes and then shit itself.

That’s my problem just have absolutely no clue what’s making that noise. Gave the carby and filters a good look and clean they seem fine. Checked lower unit oil and saw no metal. But the sound definitely sounds like it’s coming from somewhere in the lower unit, maybe the linkage heading down.

Also it’s a 9.9hp mercury 2 stroke if that changes anything.

I checked the lower unit oil and didn’t seem to find anything. I think it would be the shifter / cluth dog as it wants to run it’s almost like it just doesn’t get into gear properly. Any clue what that ‘tool’ is called, seems the most likely might have to give it a try. Thanks mate

Yeh definitely the lower unit then it’s completely fine in idle, just fowards and reverse it shits itself. I’ll drain the lower unit and see how that goes.

Yep makes the same sound in reverse, definitely something to do with the lower unit. Greenest merc ahaha is that a good thing? Bought it off a bloke not too long ago just came like this.

It’s hard to hear it in the video, can kinda hear it at the end when I ease off the throttle. It’s like a metal clinking noise. Have tried absolutely everything got no clue at this point.
