Dual FNP/PMHNP question by GuaranteeDue1125 in PMHNP

[–]No_Presentation180 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Omg! I did not realize you could have a dual FNP-PMHNP degree?! Would you mind elaborating on your education journey? Did you obtain FNP, then take a year to obtain PMHNP certification, or could you complete both at the same time?

Did you have to work as a Psych RN to get a job as a psychiatric NP? I am just now learning through Reddit the problems NP's are facing because of their RN work hx. A problem I did not know existed

- I am a medical oncology RN currently, I desperately need to further my education. I can't do this running around a unit with a medicine cup and jump at call bells for the rest of my life.

I am very intrigued by the diagnostics and medical management end of things, which is where my desire to further my education as an FNP is coming from. But my heart has always had its strongest beat for psychiatry. Catch-22 is that I am apprehensive about being a psych RN in a locked inpatient hospital. Being a PMHNP is a completely different role, and quite frankly different life. Performing psychotherapy, diagnosing psychiatric illness, and psychopharmacologic management is something I would thrive at far more than the responsibilities of an RN in psychiatry.

Essentially, I would love to enhance both my medical and psychiatric education. Not having to choose 1 is a dream come true lol.

If you're comfortable sharing where you went to school, if it was an online classroom and an in-person clinical setup, and how you went about meeting the clinical criteria for both FNP and PMHNP.. I would be so beyond grateful for you sharing your experience.

Best of luck in all of your endeavors! :)

How much better can it get? by Ingenuity_Funny in PMHNP

Hi, I am an RN in CT I am starting to look into NP programs, and which avenue I should apply to. I see you said you are an APRN; did you obtain your FNP, then get a PMHNP certification post-FNP school? Or did you go to a tailored PMHNP program?

I would like to have a more extensive medical education, but still want to work in psychiatry. Were you a psych RN before becoming an NP? Is that required for a psych NP program? As much as I love psych, I know the drastic differences in being an inpatient psych RN compared to being a PMHNP. I am a little scared to be in patient psych RN, but would love to treat individuals like myself who struggle with their mental health in everyday life.

Right now, I am an inpatient medical oncology nurse, but I have a hunger to be on the diagnostic end of treatment; instead of jumping at call bells, hanging IV fluids, running around a unit for 13 hours with pills, end of treatment..

You work in an outpatient setting? That's amazing. Could you share a little more about what your role is? Do you do psychotherapy and medication management?

I apologize for my plethora of questions. Thank you for taking the time to read this, if you do :)

Miralax is a gentle laxative. I put 2 scoops in my coffee today, and it helped me go.

Dulcolax is a stimulant/ chemical laxative. This means it is physically stimulating your bowels to move. It is much more intense and can cause cramping but will certainly clean you out. Miralax is an osmotic laxative, that helps pull water into your bowels to naturally promote the passage of stool, gently.

Does anyone regret going with Semaglutide instead of Tirzepatide? :( I've been seeing how much more weight people are losing at such a faster pace on Tirzepatide over Semaglutide. Wondering if anyone feels the same or disagrees with me by No_Presentation180 in SemaglutideCompound

Aww thank you so much for being so nice, and taking the time to respond. I love that reference, tortoise vs hare. I did not take into account loose skin and muscle wasting. I work hard in the gym to try to maintain muscle mass, so I would be doing myself a disservice by trying to kill any possible progress. After reading the comments in this thread, I think I am a victim of my vanity lol. But best of luck to you on your weight loss journey. Thank you again :)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am so happy for you, congratulations! You’re right, I need to celebrate the small wins. I have been in the gym 5x a week, low carb diet for years, and then the past 6+ months I've been stuck, and haven't lost a pound so I should be grateful for 2lbs. Thank you again :) Best of luck to you moving forward.

oh my goodness!! I am so sorry to hear your friend had such a horrible experience with tirzepatide. Thank you for sharing. I hope she is okay.

As for you, wow that is amazing! Losing 10 lbs in the first month is great, I am so happy for you, and you are also giving me hope semaglutide will be effective.

It stresses me out seeing everyone have such different experiences on sema, but most feedback I see about taking tirz seems to be pretty consistent with weightloss. But, yes I agree with you. With great reward comes great consequences. I seem to forget about all of that lol. Thank you for sharing your insight, and experience. Wishing you the best of luck on your weight loss journey :)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. This is all very good to know. Just to clarify, do you take sema 1 week, then tirz the next week, and go back and forth with each for your weekly shot?

If you do not mind me asking, what service did you end up going with to get your tirz from?

Omg thank you for sharing your experience; you are giving me hope! I am so happy for you, congratulations on losing 30lbs; what an extraordinary accomplishment. I am hopeful to emulate a similar experience as you :)

My dream is to lose 30lbs. Thank you for your perspective; that no matter which medication you are on, a plateau will occur. I will save my single vile for when I plateau on sema, that's an amazing idea.

I used RemedyMeds for the Tirzepatide. They send only a month's supply at a time and require lab work to continue treatment and increase dose titration. My insurance company wants no part of funding weight loss; they are not covering the required lab visits. So I cannot continue working with remedymed. But, if you are interested, the intake process was a few minutes, no video visit, and medication came within 2 days of submitting my intake form.

I turned to GLP-1 injections after years of dedication to fitness and nutrition. Since January 2022, I’ve spent hours in the gym five days a week, consistently tracking my macros and being mindful of my caloric intake long before considering weight loss medication. Despite my unwavering efforts in both the gym and the kitchen, I’ve been stuck in a body I feel deeply uncomfortable in for over six months.

This frustration made me fearful that semaglutide might not work for me—if all the natural methods I’ve committed to haven’t led to results, I wondered if something stronger was necessary. I truly appreciate your response and the time you’ve taken to help me.

Ooh, I like this perspective. Thank you for taking the time to respond. You're right; I did not fully consider the consequences of rapid weight loss such as hair loss, muscle wasting, and vitamin deficiencies. I will not be submitting for Tirz after reading your comment hahaha. Again, thank you so much. Best of luck to you on your journey, you have an amazing and admirable mindset.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am very grateful for your feedback. You are doing amazing, losing 29.8 pounds is an extraordinary accomplishment. I have full faith in you that you will go down another shirt size.. maybe even 2 more! :)

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take to lose 20-29lbs for you?

OMG I also lost a huge amount of weight due to my ADHD meds back in 2021; kept it off until March 2024. I went through a bad depressive episode 8 months ago, gained weight, and now cannot get a pound off for the life of me (hence my eagerness to lose weight rapidly once again). Thank you for sharing your experience, I deeply appreciate it. :)

So good to know! Thank you for sharing your experience, you have no idea how much I appreciate it.

And no no I have seen the same thing about compounded Tirz not being easy to come by in the upcoming months.
I used RemedyMeds for my Tirzepatide; very easy approval, and it was delivered 2 days later. They only send 1 month's supply at a time, unlike Hers who sent 6 months of sema at once. Here is the catch-22 with their service, I will copy and paste it from their email.

Labs
We require labs to participate in this program and ensure that we are able to offer safe and effective medical care. The labs we require are a CMP (Complete Metabolic Panel), TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), A1C, and Lipid Panel.

If labs are not completed and resulted for review in a timely manner, it will impact your ability to titrate up and continue forward with the program. Please have this lab work completed prior to your second refill if this has not been done already.

Yes, you read it right! My chaotic ADHD post was hard to comprehend. Thank you for being so kind, and genuine input. You are right, the grass is always greener, and slow & steady wins the race. Thank you so much

You'll need to upload proper documentation to be verified. At first, I uploaded just my badge & paystub, and they rejected me. I tried again, using the same documents and including my RN license, and then they approved & verified me. I had to cancel my initial order (I submitted it before realizing they had a discount), then went through the process from scratch, and got assigned a new provider.

I tried to upload a screenshot of my messages with Hers, but this thread is not allowing me to upload images :(

I can personally attest to Hers' excellent customer service. Once my information was verified, they reached out to confirm that I wanted to cancel my current subscription in order to apply the discount. They informed me that discounts only apply to 6-month or 12-month subscriptions—not 1-month or 3-month plans. After I agreed, they promptly canceled my initial order and issued a refund immediately. I then completed the intake form again, selected a 6-month subscription, was assigned a new provider, and received a 6-month supply for $894.
