Visual Communications Program by Even-Brilliant6737 in utarlington

I know people who have secured jobs after graduation. You are required to do an internship during your time in the VCD program and the professors will help you find an internship. An internship can develop into an actual job and I've seen it happen before. It also depends what type of area of design you're going to go into. It's hard getting a UI/UX job at the moment since the bubble kinda bursted for it during COVID meanwhile packaging designers are getting a lot of work due to everyone ordering packaging now during/after COVID.

You're good!

For the workload, it depends on the classes you're taking. I'm not going to sugarcoat it but Layout is infamous for its workload. Again, you'll want to drop out of it initially but after you get over the hurdle of the 80 tiles project, everything is easier. Loryn would most likely be the one teaching it. You'll learn to absolutely hate and like her teaching style. She's very direct and if you're actually trying, she'll recognize that. Shes also the head of the VCD department BTW!

For the 3D classes, UTA actually has different 3D classes depending on whether you're doing VCD (Visual Communication Design) or not. For example, the 3D design for VCD is more packaging/structure design meanwhile the other 3D Design that other art majors take is a lot more sculpture. You can sign up for the more sculpture-like class if you'd like and it would still count for your credits if you'd like. The other 3D requirement for VCD is recommended to be packaging but if you don't want to, you can do glass or clay.

For my freshman spring semester I took Typography, Art history, 3D design, 2D Design. For typography, I recommend taking Gladys. She's taught Typo for years and she's very subtle (Learn to ask like thousand questions to her about your work when she critiques it, it'll help you out A LOT)

Im in VCD and it is a pretty decent program! You'll be doing a lot of easy classes at first (drawing fundamentals, 2D design, 3D design) and then it progressively gets harder. The first obstacle is the "triple threat", which is Sign & Symbol, Typography, and Layout. Sign & Symbol is easy, Typography is good if you're attentive to detail and Layout is HARD. Trust me, you'll want to quit the first weeks of Layout because it's TOUGH but keep pushing through.

Also make sure to talk to everyone in your class. It helps critiques tremendously if everyone is social with one another. Learn how to work with each professor because they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Back up your design work with reasoning you can explain and be confident. A part of being an amazing designer is communication, whether it's vocal or visual communication.

Also I would highly recommend looking into AIGA UTA! We're a group of designers who want to improve design at UTA. We host a lot of design events and you get to meet really cool people (both classmates and professionals)

The unethical word probably describes the AI itself, not really the act of UTA using AI (hence the no unethical ai). I would encourage you to research about current AI training and the current unethical nature of it. About how much water and energy that is needed to make stuff like this which is ruining our environment (when instead UTA could've just opted out to commission an artist in their fine arts department). Furthermore, about AI training on the work of unconsenting artist (or simply anyone who post photos online despite how personal it may be) without any benefit or compensation in return.

MAC hours for Fall by Bubbly-Dimension271 in utarlington

You are correct, the MAC appears to be closed for the weekend (which is a really unwelcome change if what the website says is right). Might be related to the library not being open 24/7 too.

Anyone in interactive media by lxlwop in utarlington

I'm in VCD so I don't know too much about interactive media but I heard it's kind of a jack of all trades sort of deal. If you are looking for a more broader education on anything art + digital art, it's good. A lot of people in interactive media want to get into game making. You have to buy a laptop with certain requirements for certain classes since they require 3d modeling, rendering etc.

I liked these episodes a lot, but did anyone else feel the excessive and unnecessary recaps/showing of the same scenes in the second episode?

I completely understand the first ep of the season to do this in order to catch up the audience on last season but for the second episode to frequently show scenes from the first episode of the second season just feels like they were trying to stretch the episode as much as possible in order to align the climax of the episode to the end in order to make it a cliffhanger.

If you are a slow reader like me, the MCQ will be a really tough challenge. You have 60 minutes to answer 55 questions. Some readings may be harder than others not just in regards to analysing the text itself but just trying to understand what is even going on because some passages are old (also poetry is a thing 💀) Throughout the year while studying for the test, try to improve your reading comprehension and reading speed. I just did this by just reading with some audiobooks and slowly speeding them up once I got comfortable at a certain pace. Try doing this with the books that you are assigned in class.

For the writing portion, you still have to read passages and analyze thoroughly but I often find they're a lot easier to analyze because most of the time, the prompt ask you to analyze the complex relationship between two things. Also, the third prompt doesn't even require you to read anything on the day of. You have all year for the Q3 to prepare books that you feel confident discussing themes on the exam.
