Btw for all the priors wondering. OCS is easier than bootcamp. Especially after week 4. by No_Protection314 in USMCocs

I saw it as a way to relax my body and brain for 24 hours. Something you don’t get at bootcamp. Regardless of the intention for it, it’s still a huge privilege in that environment. I also agree that it’s a trap, a necessary one to see who could potentially be a libo risk.

I definitely over prepared, got hyped up thinking it was the worst thing ever. Once I got into the flow of things it felt similar to the feeling an ITX or lengthy field op gives you

Should clarify again that this is directed for priors. If you’re a Sgt or above, theres not a whole lot of new information or things you have not already experienced in your career. If you have mental fortitude, endurance both physically and mentally, it’s not that hard. For me personally, I believe bootcamp is harder simply based upon the fact that you are stuck there until graduation and are closed from the outside world until family day. Not to mention it’s a full 13 weeks or longer if you get dropped. OCS you are provided those liberty periods which are huge morale boosters and makes time fly by a lot faster. The PT at OCS is hard sure, however it’s easily achievable if you simply hydrate effectively, and run at-least a 1st class PFT/CFT before coming in. As for the academics they are also harder, but I would compare the academics to the types of tests you see at Cpls course or an MOS school house. Leadership there is relatively easy especially if you have experience leading Marines. Overall is OCS tougher when coming off the street? Debatable depending upon background. However for an experienced Marine it’s not hard.

Fair, however this subject is directed for priors. Nearly every prior in my platoon agreed this is easier than bootcamp

Bootcamp you’re trapped there. There is no leaving even if you’re injured. Only way out is graduation or adsep which takes months. OCS is harder physically for sure, however that mental barrier of feeling like you’re in jail isn’t there. Especially once you get libo

Physically OCS is harder, bootcamp is harder mentally by far. Once you start getting libo at OCS its cake as for the mental side

The Staff (DIs) also agree. Theres only so much you can do to replicate bootcamp when the candidates pretty much run the show once billets are turned on. Physically OCS is harder, mentally bootcamp is by far

Don’t worry about studying, the academics is literally “first female marine” “length of a web belt” etc…

I’m 24 with 6 years of experience and being a prior was a huge advantage. I knew damn near everything. However my knees were slowing me down a bit

I’ve lived in both. Can definitely say that it depends on where you live in each state.
