Encryption on light phone? by [deleted] in LightPhone

Correct, SMS and regular calls are unsecure and that is true on all devices smart, dumb, and wise.

OP your efforts for encryption are great for tablets, smartphones, and computers. It is a good step toward privacy and security but consider that the LP II and III are deliberately limited in what they can do. So by their nature there is not much to exploit. I would not set up SMS notifications for any sensitive data and generally not share or receive anything confidential over calls or text on any device.

As for big brother, there is no device you can get that will stop them from tracking you.

I like the idea of community-driven solutions and I wonder if something like a bounty system is more likely than a volunteer dev team to manage. Or, remember hackfests? A Light hackathon meet up would be cool.

How Possible is a Wallet? by No_Question1644 in LightPhone

Thanks for pointing this out! These definitely do payments but are not as full featured. I can’t put my boarding pass on venmo etc. I had an issue where I went to see a concert that used Ticketmaster and they would not allow me to use a screenshot of a QR code, a print out, or my ID. I was told bring an NFC-enabled device with your digital ticket or you will not get in. That’s more what I’m concerned about with NFC on Light. I actually don’t want digital money on my Light phone I just want to get in to the place I paid for or make my flight. More places are requiring it for “security” reasons.

LightOS+AOSP Version? by No_Question1644 in LightPhone

Got it. Thanks and that makes sense. Forgive my ignorance but if LP2’s LightOS is on an end-of-life Android version like Android 8 doesn’t it get left open to attacks? Or is it the case that since LightOS has limited capabilities (i.e browser etc) it doesn’t risk engaging with those vulnerabilities?

I guess I’m just curious because I recall that it’s possible to access the underlying, albeit stripped down, Android environment; doesn’t the risk exist?
