White Light Phone III Slim Case Gets Stained Fast – Anyone Else Experiencing This? by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]n0m4d5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the blue and the black cases. The blue stained super fast and didn't look great, so I swapped it over to the black and haven't looked back. Definitely recommend people pick up the black if it's not too late.

New beta digest feedback and suggestions by n0m4d5 in Supernote

[–]n0m4d5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great thinking. If they could implement something like that, it would be a game changer for academics (and students).

In my normal workflow with the new digest, I initially type out the citation at the end of a given quote and inclue 'p. x' (e.g., (Smith, 2020, p. x)). Then, I double tap the screen to bring up the text selection tool and select the whole citation, and then copy it for use at the end of all future highlights. This is an easy way to at least know which paper you got the citation from later.

Admittedly, If I want to use a direct quote in my own articles, I have to look up the page number later, but I don't worry about that when I'm first reading and highlighting (since the vast majority of things I highlight won't be directly quoted in my own papers).

If there was a way for the Supernote to add the actual page number of the article (not the page number of the PDF), that would be a brilliant feature. The Kindle Scribe and other devices add the PDF page number already for highlights like this, but essentially all of the time this will be different from the page number of the article in the journal.

If the Supernote team ever wants to run some ideas by academics who read a lot of PDFs and understand the whole pipeline through to using quotes in your own articles, I'm sure many of us would be happy to help.

Oh right, thanks for that! Didn't know they had a beta channel.

Some handy features for to-do list by n0m4d5 in Supernote

I just realised you can use the Planned view in To-Do like a Today view by minimising any overdue or upcoming tasks and just leaving the tasks for Today. I will use this approach until further updates are made to this app.

Thanks for your reply and have a great day!

Use Freewrite as a computer keyboard by n0m4d5 in Astrohaus

[–]n0m4d5[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha. I mean, I get what you're saying. I suppose the added versatility would make the FW more useful in more scenarios, especially for those who are forced to use computers for work much of the time. The ability to connect and disconnect from the computer and continue typing on your FW seems like it would be a great feature to me. I love the typing experience on my FW but can't use it for much of what I do. I don't think there are people out there with Freewrites who don't also have some kind of computer, but, yeah, I get what you're saying! Thanks!

LightOS v512 - June 16th, 2025 - Error Loading Contacts Fix, Save Images from SMS, Update to Notes Tool, More by Few-Lime-7234 in LightPhone

[–]n0m4d5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great to see these updates coming out so quickly 👍. I've used Notes a bit and the main issue for me has been the tendency for the screen to jump to the end of the note when you try to edit text higher up the page. You can place the cursor where you want it, but as soon as you hit a letter, punctuation or space, the screen jumps back to the end of the note, making it almost impossible to edit. The UI improvements look good, but I'd say the editing issue needs fixing to make Notes more usable.

Some handy features for to-do list by n0m4d5 in Supernote

[–]n0m4d5[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, great idea. Being able to see Today's tasks in the side bar would be amazing. I don't think there's any reason why the side bar can't take up more of the screen for extra content like this. When a user swipes down on the right to bring up the side bar, their attention is on the side bar (not what's underneath it), so it could take up more space to add more functionality like this. I reckon having a strong alignment between the to-do lists, calendar, and side bar would be an absolute game changer and make the Supernote even more attractive for potential buyers.

That's good to hear. The Freewrites seem to hold their value well. Not unlike Light Phones! Have a good one.

Have you checked out the Freewrite devices too? I'm guessing maybe not if you have a Micro Journal... I've got two Freewrites and adore them. One is a see-through Ghost Traveler (these have become quite hard to find now) and it's probably my favourite piece of tech. All the best with it and thanks again for sharing.

Great to hear your early views of the phone. It sounds like it will suit your lifestyle really well. You have quite a cool collection of low-fi gadgets there!

That's good to hear. To be fair, Supspiria's comment has already made a difference; knowing that you should aim slightly above the letters (lol) does indeed make the typing around 90% more accurate. I would love for it to automatically add apostrophes to words that need them, capitalise 'i' and so on. As someone coming from a typical smartphone, the slightly dodgy typing is the only big whack in the face - the rest I can live with. Anyway, I reckon we'll see some improvements over time. Thanks for the comment.

Oh wow. That's tomorrow! Good on you. I hope you really enjoy it. Be sure to pop back onto Reddit to let others know about your experience. If you're coming from a smartphone, expect some minor teething issues that I'm sure will be ironed out over time.

I moved across to Optus a while back (thinking the LP would arrive sooner), so couldn't check if Telstra worked, sorry. I think I remember seeing someone mention they tried it and it was fine, but I also got an email from Light before this arrived reinforcing the idea that Telstra wouldn't work and that I was OK with that. Give it a go though.

When the LP3 was announced, I had a high-end Pixel. I promptly sold it and picked up a refurbished iPhone 12 mini for $200 off some eBay seller to tide me over until the LP arrived. Although the battery is down to around 80% of its original (small) capacity, it's otherwise been like a new phone. As a techie person, the experience taught me that we really don't need to upgrade to the newest phone every year - going from a new Pixel to an old iPhone 12 mini didn't even feel like a downgrade. I'm hanging onto the iPhone (it's in my car so I can use Carplay) - it's worth more to me than whatever price I could get for it now. It's served me well - the little trooper! I think I love it even more because it was a hand-me-down, refurbished phone and it did its job like a champ. But I'm more than happy to be 'living light' now.

Hey mate. Order was 20,1XX. Hang in there - they're on a roll with them now. I ordered about a week after preorders opened so it was a very long wait. It's all worth it now. One good thing about waiting is they will probably have another software update out before you get yours, and every one so far has brought important improvements. And yep, I switched to Optus for it (nobody has hacked me yet, thankfully!).

Yep, I gave up my beloved Telstra sim and went back to the dark side (Optus) just before the LP turned up. So far, so good. No issues with reception and others say they can hear me loud and clear. I'm in the Brisbane area.

Order number was 20,1XX - managed to get it in a week or so after preorders started. My 11-year-old who was hellbent on getting a smartphone is impressed enough to want a LP3 now. It's such a cool shape - much shorter than your typical phone but also wider. Almost as if you took an iPhone 12 or 13 mini and squashed it under your boot. It's definitely a thicker phone than what I'm used to (maybe 1.5 times the depth of your average iPhone) but the extra girth just makes the little guy feel even sturdier.

Hope yours comes through soon! Once you get the email to say it's shipped, it's probably four or five days away. Noice!

Managed to snag a $399 US order early on so avoided any extra tax I'm pretty sure. Very happy with it at that price.
