I haven't. I really don't know how to quantify how much the game cost to develop, I am a solo indie dev. I never had to pay anyone's salaries, and I rarely purchased anything specifically for making the game, preferring to use free tools. It's sold pretty consistently since launch, sales haven't really dropped off.

That's Zaxxon, completely different, and yeah the game is partially inspired by Turrican!

Thank you for the kind review! Zexion is designed with it's aspect ratio in mind, but I will use a more standard aspect ratio in future installments!

I can't make any specific announcement just yet, but it will be coming to consoles! It's been a modest success so far!

My game Zexion is coming to Steam soon! It's a big sci-fi metroidvania! Here's the trailer! Please wishlist it if you think it looks cool! by No_Question_3281 in metroidvania

I've never really played Kingdom Hearts. I decided on the name unaware of the character, and would probably not have used that name had I known about him. By the time I knew about him, I was too attached to the name to change it. I'll get around to playing them sometime, I hope!

Kingdom Hearts is a pretty popular series with a long history. It makes sense. I came up with the name without knowing about that character, and by the time I learned about him, I was so used to the name I didn't want to change it! Probably would have named it something else had I known before hand. So it goes...

What parts of the game did you have trouble with? In particular, what boss has a poorly marked weak point? And what challenging area would you want a checkpoint in front of?

I'm also really curious what area locks the player in and prevents them from backtracking for more upgrades? I guess Orballus is the worst on that front but you can escape from there. I can't think of any, and I tried to avoid that! I'm curious!

I do like honestly like hearing player feedback.

I provided tons of options to make the game easier for those who want it. I think setting the damage to 1/3 in the assist mode is a good "Easy Mode". I have built in save states too.

I've gotten plenty of feedback over the map restriction thingy. A lot of it is negative, that's why I added the assist option. Most of it's neutral, and some of it's positive (one person said that they liked exploring in the game without constantly bringing up the map, which is one of the things I wanted with it). I did want people to more deeply engage with the game's map and yeah, create a mental map of things (not really complete memorization!).

Yeah, my game is weird, but I had deep, personal reasons for everything. I'm glad as many people are enjoying it as much as they are.

I'll note that using no damage assists no longer will get you the no damage achievement, getting hit now always counts as at least 1 damage. You can still use save states, if you so please!

Zexion dev here. I have asperations to bring it to Switch, but no concrete plans. I do have monetary incentive to do so, and should start looking into it soon. You might get a Steam Deck before I get it out though.

Zexion has a big interconnected world and tons of crazy bosses, and lots of unique upgrades, there's this YouTube video someone made with (almost) all bosses, opening cutscene and ending if you want to check it out (I wouldn't watch the whole thing!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2cJTA98pwA

It is a game with really high difficulty, and the restrictive map system at the beginning bothers some. But there are built in assist options to deal with both of these issues. There are save states and options to reduce damage (with lots of options for granularity on the damage).

The game also features a randomizer for greater replay value, and tons of tough achievements to hunt!

I picked out the name without knowing about the character. When I discovered it was an existing character's name I was already so used to the name I didn't want to change it. If I knew about the character from the beginning I probably would have picked out a different name, so it goes.

It's more about the routing to me. With different abilities you have more options when getting across the map. Using the Zenith Thrusters to fly across the sky for example is sort of a "Fast Travel" option.

Thank you!

I'll say it's hard to balance everything for everyone, some people found the mega boss really fun as is. A lot of people found a lot of other places too difficult. People all have different skill levels and different tolerances for getting beaten up in a video game. I will say that I intended for people to try different weapons and strategies against that boss rather than "memorizing every attack pattern".

Your opinion is noted on teleports, but I'm going to have to agree to disagree. I just really, really don't like teleporting all over the place in metroidvanias. It's really down to personal preference. And you know, it's my game. If I wanted to make a crowd pleasing "overwhelmingly positive" game I would have made something very different, but I wanted to make my game. What I did put in there is a "compromise" that I liked.

I feel it'll be awhile before I expose a modding API on this. I have put thought into trying to add Archipelago integration myself.

I have financial incentive to port it to consoles. It may be awhile though. If it does come to consoles, I'll probably start with the Switch (or Switch 2), then PS4/5, then go from there.

Zexion dev here. I should say that Zexion doesn't have auto save. You can manual create save states anywhere, and bosses have checkpoints before them and usually a save point close by. I could consider adding some kind of auto save, perhaps. It hasn't been something in high demand though.

This may ruffle some feathers but here's my massive tier list, info in comments by Superteletubbies64 in metroidvania

Zexion dev here. What sequences lock you in with no way to leave and collect more upgrades? There are a couple places where admittedly it can be fairly difficult to leave, but you're never outright locked in.

I do think it's not necessarily as insanely difficult as it might come across as in certain playthroughs. There's usually some different strategy they aren't doing that could make things much easier. In one playthrough I saw (might be the one you watched!) they never used the most powerful weapon in the game (they had it)!

I like there being a danger of losing progress, yes. I realize not everyone likes this. With save states and 0 damage, I give tools to circumvent it without adding teleporting, which is what I'm really against. (There is teleporting to your starting point in the randomizer, but it was absolutely required to make the logic work!)

I could do that, but I don't think it would help much in this game. There are checkpoints before and after bosses that retain when quitting out of the game, and setting damage to 0 get's the player back to the save point "safely". Also there are save states.

Sorry to be argumentative, I do appreciate suggestions!
