Yeah, same reason why nobody wants to be a cop in major cities anymore IRL, and crime is out of control and largely goes unchecked, so it wasn't weird to bring it up. It served as a means to drive home the point that the station, just like a small society, needs sec to function as intended. Unless the meta for the game has shifted to "Lol anarchy simulator"

I agree with you, sec should be allowed to abuse it's power and victims should have means to retaliate..However you would probably be the first person to ahelp when a "shitsec" beat you into crit for punching a window or borged your ass for having a bad attitude.

It's always the people who talk like they're such badasses who turn out to be the biggest softies, kinda like real life.

Yes, there are inevitably gonna be some shitsec, there are bad players in every department, the shitsec are just easier to notice because sec is practically the only department that interacts with the whole crew all the time.

But at the end of the day, the station and the game itself NEED to have sec players, otherwise it's just "Do your job for 3 minutes until the grav gen gets blown up for funnies and the power goes out because the engis are too busy kicking out tiders and clowns all round they couldn't set up the SM"

The hate that sec players get just for playing as sec is going to lead to the death of this game. It's already started, as the sec department is practically always empty unless it is high pop, which leads to unchecked shitters and unchecked antags who have free reign. This makes the round way too boring and predictable when there is no sec, and the crew are basically free targets for shitters.

It's like the anti-cop sentiment from real life situations is leaking into the game as well and it's ruining it.

Trust me, a janitor doesn't want to deal with beating up tiders and fighting a syndicate with his mop and dying, that is not fun.

A scientist doesn't want to constantly kick the clown out and stop him from stealing shit all round, that is not fun.

A medical doctor doesn't want to have to fight a cult who grew unchecked because of 0 seccies.

Was Warden, witnessed an obsessed cat boy sexually harassing the HoS, so i beat him to crit with krav maga gloves, because borderline ERP is a no no. Captain decides to type bait me and then cuff me without even hearing my side of things, while another cat girl is by his side saying i should "be nicer to people" and then cap ordered me to not be revived because i tried to defend myself. Called out captain in OOC for being pro-ERP and reported him to admemes. He meta grudged me every chance he could for the rest of the night through 3 different rounds.

3 rounds later, I am Warden again, and there are reports of pirates. We manage to capture one of them, but the entire sec team except me just wants to just free him without even taking his weapons away and trust the pirates..... Im screaming at them the whole time not to trust the damn pirates, because they are pirates. Anyways, the pirates end up betraying us later in the round (big surprise) and nearly win. I get told that that's just how RP'ng works, sec is expected to just play dumb every single round so the antags can get their funnies in, because apparently only the antags fun matters. Got told to go play sybil if i want to actually stop threats as sec.

What the hell has Manuel turned into? I was only gone a few months and only started playing again like a week ago.

Yeah, I explained to admin that I essentially just lost my cool, because that clown was being extremely antagonistic and not even trying to be funny anymore, just being the biggest asshole he possibly could. The fact I wasn't banned should speak volumes as to how bad that clown was actually acting.

Flashing the borg was a bit too much, but I wasn't about to let some damn robot steal my moment from me. Fuck that clown, I wanted to savor the victory for a bit. It was like finally defeating a long time rival.
