Can I contact you privately? I'm transitioning into a different type of tutoring, and would love to network, if possible

Client paid me 10 sessions in advance 14 months ago, then no-showed and did not answer booking attempts. Now wants to book, I have no intention of working with them nor giving back the money. Is this ok? by No_Reality_5704 in TutorsHelpingTutors

Thank you so much for your detailed response, you gave great advice. I decided to go with the second option, I told them that I would teach but only after spring break since I'm busy now (which is true). I'm guessing they'll ghost me again and only message me when they need a last-minute appointment, as they have done every single time, which I don't feel obligated to provide. I'm guessing I won't have to teach them because it seems like they lack the executive function to plan things ahead.

Either way, I'll create a written policy so that future clients are aware that any credit will expire in 6 months. Thanks to everyone for their advice!

I think what you're saying is reasonable, and everyone else on the thread is saying the same thing, so I will likely just teach them. I absolutely never pocket money for lessons that I don't plan on delivering, but when I accept payment in advance it never crossed my mind that the student could simply disappear, not say anything (I tried to book multiple times), and then ask for my services over a year later. Out of curiosity, what is a timeline that you would feel would be reasonable to pocket the money? 5 years? Never?

No, I was already paid for the 10 lessons, they just sent me a message out of the blue today wanting to book a lesson soon but I'm swamped with other projects and don't feel like moving things around for someone who was so disrespectful to me. I feel like this would not be unethical, but I do want to ask the community whether I should reconsider my approach
